Marketing issues in CIT reflection 2017

Assumption           

Before undertaking marketing issues in CIT reflection, I had given much importance to Hofstede model of organizational culture. I had felt much like the managers of Babcock that there would be differences in business practices in countries that were significantly different on the Hofstede’s dimensions of culture. However, in this assignment I was introduced for the first time to Lewis cultural model and found it extremely useful as a tool to predict the heritage and cultural differences amongst similarly grouped countries. I also did not consider the fact that national culture has an impact on OCB andintension of the employee to participate in change. In regards to the model of change I had no idea about the organizational change wheel although I had made use of the Lewin’s change model earlier.

Learning in Action           

There are several assumptions that changed while doing this assignment in particular. I learnt the use and importance of Lewis’s model of culture in predicting the cultural differences between countries. I found that in regards to having a comparison between countries having similar national culture, Lewis model was much more effective than that of Hofstede. I also understood the fact that national culture has a much wider impact on the employees in terms of their engagement with OCB, their participation in change etc. I came to understand the importance of HPWP at organizations and the fact that open communication needs to be used in HPWT. Another important takeaway from doing this assignment was coming to know about organization wheel of change which helps in predicting the capability of an organization to change.        

Learning on Action  

There are several important things that I came to understand and appreciate as I went along doing this particular task. I found that the Lewis model of organizational culture to be extremely effective in prediction of differences between countries whose cultures are often grouped in similar. I understood also through literature review that even within Europe there are individual differences between the countries in terms of national culture. I also came to appreciate another change model that is the wheel of change and its use in predicting the capability of an organization to change.

Transfer of Learning

The learning and the understanding of the models that I have gathered in this assignment would prove to be useful in future assignments that I work on and can be used by me while analyzing other organizations in future. The information and  knowledge would also assist me in working life where I have to make real life business decisions. After doing this assignment several of my personal biases and assumptions have been removed and this would help me in making better business decisions in future.
