Managing Your Clipboard the Right Way on Windows

by Era elevators Online Shopping Store

How many times do you come across the clipboard while working on Windows? Dozens of times, right? The clipboard is a tool to move content from one place to another by performing actions like copy, cut, and paste. With time, the Windows clipboard has progressed quite a bit. Clipboards help us in saving tons of time by allowing us to move text within a document or between documents quickly. If this function was not available, we would have had to manually retype all the text strings that we have already typed once somewhere else. Let’s dig a bit deep to know more about clipboard and ways to manage it efficiently.

What Is A Clipboard?

The clipboard is a functionality that enables the users to cut, copy, and paste an unrestricted amount of data (in the form of texts, images, and formatting) from one place to another so that you don’t have to perform the same task again. However, it is worth noting that copying hundreds of pages of text can degrade the performance of your system and slow down the processing. The clipboard is not something exclusive to Windows; other platforms are no exception, be it. Android, Mac, or iOS, you will find the presence of a clipboard functionality. On Windows, we are quite familiar with the shortcuts Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V for performing actions like copying and pasting of snippets of text. Additionally, Ctrl + X is used to cut a piece of content from one place so that it can be moved to where it belongs.

Save and View Your Clipboard History

After a Windows update that rolled out in 2018, Microsoft added a bunch of handy features to the clipboard. You now have the functionality to turn on history for your clipboard. And you can also sync clipboards between different devices, provided that you use the same Microsoft account in those. You can head over to the settings associated with a clipboard and then turn on the toggle under “Sync Across Devices” along with “Clipboard History.” Once you are done enabling clipboard history and multi-device sync, you can press Win + V anytime at your convenience to see the clipboard history.

Clearing up clipboard History

There are two ways to clear up the clipboard history that is no longer in need. You can either use the keyboard shortcut Win + V to get to the clipboard history. You can then right-click on each individual entry to get options like deleting the entry, pinning the entry, and clearing all the entries. Or else, you can also do it by going to the clipboard settings. Head over to the clipboard settings and then click on “Clear Clipboard History,” followed by “Clear” to remove the data in your history.

Remove Formatting from Text Using the Notepad

It can be quite draining sometimes when you manually have to clear out the formatting from a piece of text. By default, the clipboard is designed to copy the text along with the formatting. In times when you do not need the formatting, but only need the text content to be moved to a different place, you can make use of the Notepad to clear out the formatting. You will simply need to copy the piece of text (that is combined with the formatting), and then paste it into the Notepad first. Doing this will remove all the formatting like bold, italic text, headlines, different text sizes, e.t.c. After that, you can copy the pure text to the desired location.
