Major Lakes and Palaces of Udaipur

The capital of the former princely state of Mewar, Udaipur is the most beautiful and romantic city in India. The city is situated close to Gujarat, in the southern region of desert land and it is the second most attractive tourist destination of the state after the desert capital, Jaipur. Udaipur is often known as the "Venice of the East". The city is a favorite destination for a romantic holiday and more than thousands of tourists visit the lake city every year from all over the globe.


History of Udaipur


The city of lakes was found by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1553, after his castle Chittorgarh was terminated by Mughal Emperor Akbar. During the 16th century emergence when Udai Singh was looking to relocate his capital to a secure place, it is believed that a hermit (holy man) meditating on the hill near Pichola Lake, advised him to establish his capital in the midst of a valley and assured him for protection. Udaipur was the final capital of the erstwhile Mewar kingdom which is surrounded by the Aravali hills and ornamented with three massive lakes. The fall down of Chittorgarh and resignation of the royal Sisodia's supreme made Udaipur as the first capital of Mewar kingdom. Sisodia's ruled for more than 67 generations in Rajasthan.



Fairy Tale Destination


The White city has five major lakes, Fateh Sagar Lake, Rangsagar Lake, Pichola Lake, Swaroopsagar Lake, Dudh Talai Lake and Udaisagar Lake which makes the city as a fairy tale destination. Apart from these lakes, the city also has beautiful forts and palaces made up off pure marble, gardens, temple pavilions and rich culture which is the most favorite haunt for newly weds.

Palace in Udaipur


The greatest fusion of Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles, City Palace includes Amar Vilas, Badi Mahal, Durbar hall and other buildings, is a palace complex in Udaipur. The Zenana Mahal palace now features a beautiful museum which was converted in 1974. The construction of the Palace was intiated by Maharana Udai Singh II, in 1559 and his successor Maharanas took over a period of the next 300 years to build it which is considered the largest royal complex in desert land Rajasthan. Fateh Sagar Lake

An artificial lake, Fateh Sagar Lake is concered as the pride of Udaipur. It is built by constructed by Maharana in in 1680s at the the north of Lake Picholas. The Hariyali Amavasya Mela festival is organized at the lake precincts every year in the month of August and September. The lake looks very beautiful with three small islands the largest one is known as the Nehru Park which features a garden with a zoo and a restaurant, followed by a public park with an impressive water-jet fountain and the third one is Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO) which is the only solar observatory in the Aisa.
