LOST AND FOUND AD IN NEWSPAPER; COVENIENT WAY TO FIND THE MISSING PERSON OR THING

by Kulwant Singh Digital Marketing Excutive

You must have come across newspaper adverts titled ‘Missing Article’ or ‘Missing Pet’ or ‘Missing Person’. Such ad posts are called Lost Found newspaper ads and are meant to inform the people at large about a thing gone missing whether living or non-living. These are a type of Public Notices that must be circulated amongst the common masses to get information about the thing lost.

HOW TO DRAFT A LOST ANF FOUND NOTICE?

A typical Lost and Found ad in newspaper comprises of the following information:

• DESCRIPTION OF THE THING LOST

To publish a Lost and Found advertisement you need to provide the details about the missing thing. For instance, if you have lost your suitcase, you need to provide the detailed description of the same i.e. colour, brand, size, etc. It is important to furnish such details or else it will become difficult for the readers to relate to your post and you might not be able to get the desired result for your ad post.

• PLACE FROM WHERE THE THING IS LOST

It is better to provide the exact location from where you have lost the item. For instance, in the above example you can mention whether you have lost your suitcase from Railway station, Airport or a Bus Stop. In this manner, your search will become streamlined and you will get a direction of search and hence you will be better able to trace your lost item.

• PHOTOGRAPH

It will be a good idea to provide the photograph particularly in the cases of a Missing Person or Pet. A photograph published in a national daily or a local or community newspaper will help people recognize the person gone missing and in case anyone will come across them they will immediately inform you about the same.

• CONTACT INFORMATION

It is very important information that you must provide so that people can contact you. You need to provide your phone or mobile number, e-mail ID or residential address so that people can contact you in case someone has any information about your precious thing lost.

Lost and Found advertisement must be drafted very carefully ensuring that you do not miss out on any essential information that is pertinent to the person lost.

WHY NEWSPAPERS FOR LOST AND FOUND NOTICES?

Well, the reason is quite simple; newspapers are circulated all across the country. They reach the remotest parts of the nation as well where internet is not predominant. Plus, the readership of a news journal comprises of individuals from all the age groups whether a student, working professional or people from the good old and wise generation. Hence it becomes easier to send across your message to many people with a single advert.

There is another very important reason and that is the cost per reach of newspapers is way less than the electronic media. A person who belongs to service class or middle-class will seldom have huge amounts of money to get their Missing person’s information aired on Television or Radio. For such people, it is convenient and economical to go for a newspaper post only.

(NOTE: If you are about to publish a notice under Lost and Found category then you might be required to produce an affidavit or an FIR for the same.)

You should go for repeat publication of your ad post for a considerable time to get the best responses as an advert published just once might not get you the best results.

Go ahead and publish Lost and Found advertisement in any newspaper of your choice and speed up the search of the missing person or thing.
