Looking for Another Job? Keep These Points in Mind

by Julie Clements Promoter
As a digital transcription service, we understand the significance of job interviews and how it assists employers in choosing the right candidate for an organization. Interviews help to build a connection between employers and jobseekers. The interview helps job seekers present their skills and acquire a desired position on merit and allows employers to choose the right person for the right position. But before attending a job interview, it is important for jobseekers to identify the right job that suits their interests and qualification.

Whether you have worked in an unfavourable working condition or you have lost your current job or you have remained unemployed for a long period of time, finding the right job is difficult. Days and days of filling out applications, emailing resumes, and making phone calls can leave you feeling down, discouraged, and unappreciated. So to get hired fast, here are some key tips for jobseekers:

  • Job hunting at work is not a good idea: Never conduct a job hunt during working hours because you do not want your colleagues to know about your intention to quit. You can search jobs either before or after work or during lunchtime i.e.  5 to 7 hours a week. This gives you enough time to look for any suitable job. Make sure that you provide your personal mail and contact number and protect your phone with a password. It is best not to let friends answer your phone or play with it.
  • Make use of your networking skills: This is the age of the internet and social media, and professional networking sites such as LinkedIn are meant for career-oriented connections. Even your social networking platforms have dedicated groups and pages for you to connect with people for professional opportunities.
  • Be clear about what you are going to do next: Be clear about whether you want a job promotion or just a job change. So do some research and be clear on what job title you want.
  • Be ready with your resume and cover letter: Make sure that you make an effective resume because employers look for a targeted resume with excellent accomplishments.  You can find steps to draft a good resume online and get through the Applicant Tracking System (ATS). Along with your resume make sure that you send a cover letter too. A cover letter that clearly outlines what you can contribute to the organization and this can make you stand out among other candidates. Make sure that you begin your cover letter with a strong bold statement and then gradually explain your key strengths for doing the job. Mention skills and experience that hit the top requirements in the job listing. Remember to mention your contact number, name and email id in case they need to contact you.
  • Keep your LinkedIn Profile up to date: Remember to turn off your notifications so that the whole world doesn’t get to know about your updates. The next tip is not to tag your profile “looking for job” because you don’t want your current employer to know that you are looking for a job. The next step is to keep an eye on the LinkedIn articles to develop your personal brand and be able to tap into the SEO needed to get recruiters’ attention. Update your "about" section and check the skills section.
  • Remember too much talk could be risky: You can share the search with a trusted friend outside of work or with your partner but make sure that there is no broadcast of the fact that you are looking for a job. Stay calm and composed and don’t develop an attitude like “I’m out of here ASAP.” Also, ensure that there is no badmouthing about your current employer because some employers monitor the Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts of their employees. Even if they don't, you never know who is connected to whom through the virtual network.
  • Prepare for your job interview: There are so many books, online blogs and articles that suggest good tips to prepare for an interview, read those write-ups and write down some prospective questions you think you may be asked during the interview. Be prepared with all the answers for the prospective questions. Schedule interviews after your work hours and if the interview is scheduled during working hours, consider taking a vacation or a day off saying that you are sick so that nobody will disturb you. Be careful with your attire, do not over dress or dress casually. Maintain a good body language and speak with clarity and after the interview do not forget about the follow up.
  • Align your skills with the company goals: You have already listed out your set of skills in your resume, and the interviewer has already seen it. So instead of repeating that during your interview, explain how your skills can be utilized to make an impact at the workplace. Highlight any achievements that are relevant to your role.
  • Be clear with your references: Be careful with the references you give and ask the employer not to call your current employer for referrals. Give references that can attest to your ability to get the job done and former managers who have left the company are the best choice. Make sure that the person you list is not going to tell your current employer and be sure to reconnect with references and get their permission and current contact info.
  • Make a wise choice: Not all jobs are your cup of tea; so apply to the ones that look like good fits with companies you’ve researched and like the culture. You don’t want to waste time applying for anything that doesn’t meet your requirements.
  • Do not forget your employment letter: Make sure to present your employment letter to your current boss that outlines your data and agreed upon salary and any other details before leaving your current job. In some cases the current employer may try to keep you but the choice is yours. Be considerate and offer two weeks’ notice, which is as long as you believe the current boss won’t fire you in a rage and if that is a concern, give notice on the last day you want to work.
  • Make enough copies: If there are any documents, contacts, files, etc. that you want from your current employer then be sure that you have copied all of that to your computer before you give notice.

Job interviews are not easy for both interviewer and interviewees. Invest a little time prior to the interview session. The key to effective interviewing is to project confidence, stay positive and be able to answer any question. Brush up your communication skills and speak clearly and concisely about what you can offer the employer.

Interviewers can always choose the right person for the job by reviewing the interview transcripts. Interview transcription services offer customized transcription of interviews at affordable rates. They have a team of skilled experts and transcriptionists to ensure accuracy in their work.
