Oil has brought immense fame and money to Azerbaijan. The Nobel family of Norway, responsible for creating the much applauded Nobel Prizes, acquired most of their wealth form the oil here somewhere around the 19th century.

6. Burning hill

One of the rarest natural wonder is this mountain which keeps burning all around the year. It has been burning over 100 years now and no rain has been able to put off the fire. The natural gas escaping from the ground is responsible for this wonderful sight.

7. The land of fire

Apart from nature’s glory of fire in this country, the first ever known fireplace is believed to have been built here some 700,000 to 500,000 years ago in the largest cave, the Azikh Cave.

8. Superstition

A few popular beliefs are never to lend money or bred at night. Weird even, leaving scissors with open blades leads to misfortune and even death. Not only that much, but misfortune will come your way if you meet a person with empty buckets.

9. English, what is that!

Less than one percent of population here speaks English in comparison to 98.6 percent Azerbaijani speaking people. So, it’s suggested that you know a few important words to avoid embarrassment while you’re travelling here.
