Learn about the Different Types of Scaffolding Used in Construction and Their Uses
by Mr Peter Peter SmithMost
people do not know that there are different types of scaffolds. They only think
of scaffolds as the metals that when linked up provide a steady ground for
workers.Though this is true, there are different types of scaffolds for
different uses.
The
type of scaffolding used depends on the type of work being carried out. However,
all the scaffolds ought to be firm and strong to support both the workers and
the construction material laid on them.Steel or timber, the scaffolds must meet
the building needs they are made for.
Different types of
scaffolds and their work
· Steel scaffolding – These are the most common scaffolds built from steel tubes. They are easy to erect, dismantle as well as move around with them. Most Connecticut companies offer scaffolding rental CT of the steel material. These steel scaffolds are popular for their durability and fire resistance. They are best known to provide greater safety for the workers though they are costly.
· Trestle scaffolding – These are small scaffolds of up to 5m that are used to work inside rooms. They mostly help in painting jobs and repairs in homes or offices. They are not as common as the steel scaffolds but they are commonly used too.
· Suspended scaffolding – These scaffolds are commonly used for cleaning, painting and repair work. Assisted by chains, wires or ropes, the working platform is suspended from the roof. The suspended scaffolds are easy to be lowered and lifted to the desired level.
· Patented scaffolding – These are made from steel but the difference between them and steel structures is the fact that these are fitted with special couplings and frames. These scaffolds are ready made and are available in the scaffolding rental CT market.
· Double scaffolding – These are commonly used in masonry jobs. They ae independent scaffolds that use holes on the walls to support them. They use double rows to make them firm with the first row being about 20 to 30 cm away from the wall and the second made 1m form the first row.
·
Single scaffolding – These
are used in brick masonry and comprises of putlogs, standard and ledgers. They
must correspond to the wall at a distance of 1.2m. The standard have a distance
of about 2 to 2.5m while ledgers join the standards at an upright gap of 1.2 to
1.5m.Putlogs are set at the gap on the wall and connected to the end of the
ledger positioned at 1.2 to1.5m, forming a strong scaffold to work with. They
are harder to work with than all the other scaffolds.
It
is very important to learn how to use the type of scaffold you will need for
your kind of work before embarking on the project.
