Dr. Fitzanakis received his B.S. In Chemistry from Milligan College, TN, M.Sc. He graduated with a degree in Science and Technology from the University of Edinburgh, the UK, a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience at Vanderbilt University, TN, and a Masters in Toxicology from Wake Forest University School of Medicine at N.C. He has held academic and research positions at several prestigious medical schools and universities such as Vanderbilt University, and is an adjunct professor and vice president of pharmaceutical science at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He has served on various NIH grant review panels, is a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (ATS), and has received numerous awards. He is an active member of the Society of Toxicology (SOT), has been elected SOT’s Neurotoxicology Specialty Officer, and is an editorial board member and critic for several peer-reviewed journals. He is widely published and has received numerous research grants from NIH.

Dr. Fitzanakis has been studying the adverse effects of chemical, biological and physical agents on organisms for over 15 years. He uses his broad-based expertise in toxicology and pharmacology to address issues related to exposure to agents such as metals, pesticides, solvents, gases, blood alcohol, prescription drugs, and abuse, as well as traumatic brain injury.
