IVF can be initially difficult for couples. You are going to experience a lot of new things, with a, if not big, a small margin of success, and can make changes in your life; all this can cause anxiety and stress.

This article is aimed at helping you get through this difficult stage by providing you with some insight into the treatment from the best IVF center in Noida

IVF Cycle

Step 1:
It is day 1 of your period, knowing your menstrual cycle is crucial; the clinic will help you if you have any difficulties.

Step 2:
This step is known as the stimulation phase. Naturally, every menstrual cycle, a single egg is produced and matured by your ovaries; however, for IVF, multiple eggs are required, hence medication that makes your follicles produce more eggs.

This medication is prescribed for 8-14 days. It’s usually in the form of injections, which can vary from 1-2 for the cycle or 1-2 per day. These are hormonal and include FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone).

Constant tracking is done to keep a tab on the ovaries, keep track of medication and health. Ultrasounds and blood tests are used. Transvaginal ultrasound is used; in this, an ultrasound device is inserted internally.

The final step here is the trigger injection; this gets the eggs ready for ovulation (a process where eggs are released, and you have your period).

Step 3:
Egg retrieval, this procedure is done under anesthetic, the procedure takes about 20-30 minutes. Here the eggs that have matured are retrieved. Again ultrasound is used to guide a thin tube/needle into each ovary.

This tube is connected to a suction device that gently retrieves the egg. The eggs are stored until a sperm sample is collected.

Step 4:
The sperm is either taken from your partner; if so, then it is collected on the same day. If a donor is required, then the clinic keeps the sample ready.

The sperm undergoes many procedures that ensure only the best and healthy fertilize the egg. A procedure known as Sperm washing is commonly used here.

Step 5:
The retrieved eggs and the collected sperm are placed in a special dish where they fertilize the egg. In some cases where the sperm is damaged or has difficulty in swimming, then the sperm is directly injected into the egg.

Step 6:
Once the sperm has fertilized the egg, the egg is now known as an embryo. The embryo is kept in an incubator to help the embryo mature a bit more before it is transferred back into the mother. This step is done to ensure that only fertilized and healthy eggs are selected, and embryo’s that reach the blastocyst stage have better chances of conception.

Step 7:
The embryo transfer step, here the embryo or the blastocyst is placed back into the uterus. Pregnancy occurs if the egg implants itself into the uterus wall.

This step does not require any anaesthetic and only takes about 5 minutes. It is done by a small tube known as a catheter. Multiple eggs are usually transferred 2, but not more than that as multiple conceptions can lead to complications.

Step 8:
After two weeks of the embryo transfer, blood tests are conducted to measure your hCG levels (human Chorionic Gonadotropin). This is done to check for pregnancy. Home kits can also be used. However, they do not provide enough details about the pregnancy.

IVF treatments are done in several cycles; in each cycle, multiple steps are repeated depending upon the situation.

I hope this helps a little in your journey to conception.
