Know About Failing Submersible Pumps

by Darling Pumps Smart Pumping Solution Provider
When it comes to any kind of submersible pumps, be it submersible sewage pumps, or submersible dewatering pumps, there are some basics that one should always know. This includes the reason for their failures.

Typically, such pumps have a low profile and are quiet. They can be configured for horizontal or vertical use or any angle. The submersible electric pumps can be seen as workhorses which tend to perform well for flood control as well as storm-water drainage. If something goes wrong, then their configuration is something that makes it easy to repair as well as maintain them.

This troubleshooting article will show you if there’s a quick fix for whatever it is that is failing your submersible pump.

1. The motor isn’t able to start:
Let’s start with the obvious steps. In this case, go for checking for blown fuses. Also, check for a tripped circuit breaker. If your problem is intermittent, then it could end up to be corroded or even dirty fuse receptacles.
The next sane step would be to check the voltage. Do this at the contact points for the pressure switch. Corrosion or debris might be able to cause irregular voltage. The electric motors don’t really like that.
Now, you should go ahead and look if there is anything that is bounding the pump. In some cases, the sand turns out to be the culprit. The amp readings would be up to six times higher than normal, right before the safety overload would trip. You should clear it and finally relax.

2. The motor is running continuously or sometimes too often:
If there is a leak in your system, then it will be causing both of these issues. A great thing would be to replace any kind of leaking or damaged pipes. Further, you should check the water level and should be making sure that the pump has not exceeded the well capacity.
When there is a faulty pressure switch present, it will also cause the motor to stay on. It might even cause the cycle to be too fast. In such cases, you should double-check the settings as well as clean the contacts.
Remember, in the case where a motor never shuts off, it can also be an indicator that the pump screen is blocked. It can also mean that your check valve is stuck. So, go ahead and inspect both.

3. The overload protector is tripping again and again:
Are your overload protectors in direct sunlight? This means that there is enough heat to cause them to trip. Shading or ventilating the box will work. Don’t forget to check the line terminals as well for seeing if the pump is drawing incorrect voltage.
Apart from these, two more common problems can be that not enough water is running through your pump system or that it’s making excessive noise! After getting so much information on the problems faced by submersible pumps, like submersible sewage pumps, or submersible dewatering pumps, you have a better idea of why it is important to know about al this!
