Kinds of Moths You Should Know About

by Jane Wilson Writer

Nowadays there are many pests, which try to crawl their way into our homes. It's like all our other problems are not enough, so we need to think about all the bed bugs, mice and rats, which want to occupy our homes and do whatever they like inside them. But these pests usually don't ask if we want them there. They just come inside and do whatever they want. This is why getting rid of these fiends should be the most important priority for every household. The moths are probably one of the most unpleasant creatures, which may infest our homes. They like to eat our clothes, so we should be very careful with our closets, if we want to avoid this problem. But the bigger issue is that there is more than one kind of moths. There are four only in the United Kingdom, actually. And if you want to be prepared for them, you should read a little about the different kinds of moths you should know about. After this you will be prepared for everything.

Common clothes moth. This is the most common kind of moth, which inhabits almost every closet in the country. The adult moths of this kind are only 8 mm long. The larvae, from which they appear is about 10 mm longs and it's creamy in colour, with a brown head. When they feed, they leave unsymmetrical holes in the fabrics. The adult species have wings, which are straw coloured and have no special marks on them. When you first look at it, you will probably think it's just another regular butterfly, but make no mistake – these moths are real enemies to your clothing and everything made from natural fabrics. This is why you should call an exterminator to get rid of them right away. If you need pest control services in London, check here.

Brown house moth. This kind of moths is a little bigger than the common clothes moth. The adult species can grow up to 14 mm in size. Its colour is brown and it has a few darker spots on its wings. The larvae of this creature is also quite big – it can get up to 20 mm in length. These moths are a little more targeted than the other kinds – they prefer to feed on natural fabrics, like leather, wool, feather and other similar ones. They don't touch the synthetics, so if you prefer these fabrics your home will be safe. But the truth is nobody likes the synthetic touch. We all prefer to wear something nice and pretty, and this is why these moths are a great danger to us.

Case bearing clothes moth. This kind of moth is very similar to the first one – the common clothes moth. It's size is almost the same – up to 8 mm in length. It's only the colour which is different. While the common clothes moth is light in colour, the case bearing clothes moth is quite dark. It's colouration is dark brown, with three faint spots on its back. The larvae of these moths are also creamy white in colour, and they are also 10 mm long. The holes in the fabrics, made by the case bearing clothes moth have regular shapes, compared to the common clothes moth. If you ever stumble upon any mentioned kind of moths, don't hesitate and call a pest control company in London now.

White shouldered house moth. This is the last kind of moths, and probably the least dangerous to our clothing. But this still doesn't mean it's not dangerous. This kind of moths is about 10 mm long, its head is white and the body – brown. It's larvae is about 12 mm long, creamy white in colour and with a reddish brown head. This kind of moths feed on a very wide range of food, so it's not so dangerous to the fabrics.
