Key elements of a certified rigging safety training course

by American Crane And Safety OSHA rigging and signal training

Those who want to get involved in the construction, mining or transport industries need to know that when it comes to handling heavy equipment like a crane, one has to have the right training to be able to perform what needs to be done in a professional manner. This is where a certified rigging safety training program can help.

Rigging safety courses include both theoretical as well as practical lessons. The practical lessons are especially valuable in getting the trainees to be comfortable with the work hands-on.

A rigging safety training course includes fundamentals in the following:

  • Fiber rope - Knowledge is necessary for learners to understand how to handle fiber ropes. They also need to know how to identify them, how to inspect them as well as have an understanding of knots and hitches.
  • Wire rope - Just like with fiber ropes, trainees have to know the ins and outs of wire ropes.
  • Slings and hitches – Slings and hitches are used quite a bit in rigging tasks. So, it is important that trainees know how to identify different types of sling materials, how to properly use slings and hitches and how to inspect them for any damages.
  • Rigging hardware – The trainees also need to learn about the rigging hardware that will be used on a regular basis. These include hooks, shackles, clamps, trolleys and everything in between. Learners have to know how to use the hardware properly and how to inspect them to ensure that they are still in good working order.
  • Hoists - There are different types of hoists available, ranging from those that are operated by hand, to those that are operated by power. A rigging course must also teach learners about cranes and jacks, and the best way to use them.

There are also lessons that the trainees must learn about load weights and attachment, and how to select the best hardware to use in terms of the slings, loads and hitches – depending on the requirements of the jobs that they will be performing.

One of the major advantages of certified rigging safety courses in Spanish is that trainees learn the basis of what rigging entails and are, therefore, able to execute the requirements of the job professionally, all while ensuring that they are complying with all the regulations.
