Keto vs. The Other Diets: How Do They Stack Up?

by Journey To Wellness health and wellness

Look up the word diet on Google or any other search engine you like and you are bound to find tens, if not hundreds of thousands of results, all from people trying to push their own diet for folks to try. While some of these diets are genuinely helpful ways to lose weight, some of them are simply fad diets or diets that become widely talked about but not necessarily healthy in many ways.

The world-famous ketogenic (or keto for short) diet has become one of the most popular diet choices in the world, with millions of people giving it a try in their efforts to become a healthier version of themselves. It is a great diet choice, one with science to back it up. Is it the best diet choice, though? How does it stack up against other diets you can read about online?

Keto Diet and Those Other Guys

To understand how the keto diet stacks up against the competition, you should first make yourself aware of what exactly keto is. At its core, the keto diet is all about eating foods that are higher in fat and lower in carbohydrates. This helps your body achieve ketosis, a state in which you burn fat for your body’s fuel instead of glucose.

The keto diet isn’t like any of the more commercial diet choices, where you might have to pay a monthly fee to have special diet food delivered to your door. You might find yourself paying for specialized food choices, though, like special cuts of beef, oils, or other foods. You also need to be aware of what you’re eating on the keto diet, because you need to carefully gauge your fat vs. carbs intake.

Some of the more popular commercial diets such as the Atkins diet require that you sign up for a program, order books, and pay a monthly subscription fee to have special food delivered to your doorstep.

While the Atkins diet does offer a decent, balanced mix of nutrition contents, many folks may find it and similar commercial diets to be a bit pricey or may find themselves unsure of how well it works without many factual studies behind them.

If you’re planning on choosing any diet, be it keto or something else entirely, one of the most important things you should always do before beginning your new diet or making any final decisions is to do all the research you can. Make sure you’re well informed on any diets you consider taking on so that you don’t waste money and time on one diet that isn’t working when you could be spending that same money and time on a diet plan that will work for you.
