Keeping the Diesel Generator Set Dry During the Rainy Season

by Dieselgenerator Tech ***

The rainy season is approaching. Whenever the weather is high, the air is humid and hot, and rainy days often continue, many environments are prone to damp and moldy, giving people a sticky feeling. The rain is the most frequent, and it is also for users of diesel generator sets. This brings the safety hazard of water ingress to the unit. Once the diesel generator set is damp or flooded, it will have a great impact on the operation and service life of the unit. Therefore, the user must take corrective measures in time. So when the diesel generator set accidentally gets water in the rainy season, how to deal with it correctly?

Keeping the Diesel Generator Set Dry During the Rainy Season

1. When the diesel generator set in operation is found to have water ingress, it should be shut down immediately. If water is found in the shutdown state, it is not allowed to start.

2. After the water enters, to drain the water from the oil pan of the diesel generator set, first use a hard object to support one side of the unit and raise it so that the oil drain part of the engine oil pan is at the lowest position, then unscrew the oil drain plug and pull it out. Pull out the oil dipstick to allow the water in the oil pan to flow out by itself until the oil and water are released together, then screw on the oil drain plug.

3. Remove the air filter of the diesel generator, replace the new filter element and soak it in oil.

4. Then remove the intake and exhaust pipes and the muffler to remove the water in the pipes. Open the decompression, shake the crankshaft of the diesel engine to generate electricity, until the water in the cylinder is completely drained from the intake and exhaust ports, and install the intake and exhaust pipes, mufflers, and air filters.

5. Remove the fuel tank of the diesel generator, drain all the oil and water in it, check whether there is water in the fuel system of the diesel generator, and drain if there is water.

6. Discharge the sewage in the water tank and waterway of the diesel generator, clean the waterway, add clean river water or boiled well water until the water float rises. Turn on the throttle switch and start the diesel generator. After the diesel generator is started, pay attention to the rising of the oil indicator, pay attention to whether the diesel generator makes abnormal noises, and then run in the diesel in the order of first idling, then medium speed, and then high speed. After running-in, the generator stops and releases the oil and then refills the new oil. The diesel generator can be used normally after starting the diesel generator.

7. Disassemble the diesel generator, check the stator and rotor inside the generator, and then assemble it after drying.

The above is the correct operation steps for the diesel generator set inadvertently flooded in the rainy season. In the wet rainy weather, even if the diesel generator set does not enter the water, it is very easy to get damp due to environmental factors. Once the diesel generator set gets wet or flooded, which has a great impact on the work and service life of the unit, so the user must promptly handle it correctly.
