Keepers of the Wild rescues grizzly bear cub from certain death

by jeasson jea businessman

Keepers of the Wild recently rescued a two year old bear which was just about to be euthanized. The young bear, named Bam Bam had previously been purchased by an animal trainer who was using her in the entertainment industry. Later, the animal trainer decided to advance his career with an established animal entertainment company, this meant that upon accepting his new job he had to find homes for his menagerie. The animal entertainer found homes for all his animals except for Bam Bam. It is at this juncture that Keepers of the Wild came to her rescue just before the animal trainer euthanized the bear.

With the collaborative efforts of Keepers of the Wild and Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge, the group took immediate possession of the cub and made arrangements for her transport from South Carolina to the Keepers of the Wild sanctuary located on Historic Route 66 in Valentine, Arizona. The organization reports that the bear arrived safely on August 28th and she is being taken care of at the sanctuary.

Keepers of the Wild is a non profit organization that does not receive government funding, they are seeking help from the public and well-wishers in order to build Bam Bam’s habitat. The organization has actively started a fundraiser hosted on Razoo.com towards this initiative. With the money that will be raised from the “Build A Bear Habitat 2014” fundraiser, the organization will start contracting to build a spacious natural habitat consisting of large rock formations, natural vegetation, a large den area, a variety of trees, climbing structures and a rock swimming pool as well as enrichment toys. The whole project is expected to cost approximately $45,000.

Jonathan Kraft states, “Bam Bam’s rescue was an unanticipated expense but this was an animal’s life at stake- I couldn’t stand the thought of this innocent cub being put to death.”

“This scenario is typical of animals used in entertainment- once these animals are no longer wanted or profitable, or become an inconvenience, they are disposed of. It’s appalling!”

Keepers of the Wild have vowed to do everything possible to ensure that the Bam Bam gets the best. “We are so happy we took her- she is full of life and has brought a new spark to Keepers of the Wild. We will do everything in our power to ensure she has the best life imaginable.” Said the organization founder and director Jonathan Kraft.
