Jofra Archer Out of IPL 2020

by Sonali Mishra Human Resource Executive

England fast bowler Jofra Archer who sustained an injury against South Africa earlier this year has been ruled out of IPL 2020. He has been out of action since the injury.

Archer took a repeat MRI scan this week in London, and has been reviewed by the ECB medical team and is progressing as expected from the stress fracture to his right elbow during the South Africa tour in January. He will have a further scan in mid-April before returning to competitive cricket. His full focus will be on playing for England; updates ECB on its official website.

England’s National Team coach Chris Silverwood said, “My priority is getting him right for England and our international summer,”

“Sussex will play a big part in that and we will work very closely with them to make sure he gets the best preparation possible. The only things we have been talking about are what’s best for England and what’s best to get him right for that.

“We just want him to be fit, full stop. We want him to be 100 percent ready, 100 percent fresh and 100 percent fit for the international season.”

Archer was bought by Rajasthan Royals for $1.04 million in 2018 and was retained in IPL 2019 and IPL 2020.

Archer had hoped to make a comeback before IPL as he said he was “making good progress” with the injury and had his “fingers crossed” about playing in IPL 2020 when he signed a contract extension with Sussex.

Archer will be continuing his rehabilitation and will be returning to competitive cricket in May for Sussex ahead of England’s Test series against West Indies which starts in early June.
