ISKCON, the International Society of Krishna Consciousness in Bangalore, is located in Rajaji Nagar. The temple was first inaugurated in 1997, and Sri Madhu Pandit Das brought the architecture. In 1997, it was the President of India, Shankar Dayal Sharma, who initiated the temple.

The architecture is a fine blend of traditional values with modern touch-ups combining the gopuram and glass, enhancing its overall aesthetics.

 

The flag post is noticeable, a 17-meter tall gold-plated post; the gold plated shikhara is 8.5 meters high. The ISKCON Bangalore is constructed on a vast area where the lush greenery makes the devotees go in awe and mesmerizes them with the place's utter beauty.

 

The temple management has taken care of all the facilities and necessary aspects. Hence there is a lecture hall, exhibition hall, ancient artifacts, indoor theatre to showcase the Vedic films, and several other amenities.

 

The walls and doors as part of architecture can be distinguished with stone carvings. Lord Krishna's main shrine is very beautifully crafted and looks even magnificent with water fountains fitted around.

 

Festivals at ISKCON Bangalore

 

Shri Vaikuntha Ekadashi: the Ekadashi at ISKCON attracts a large crowd when the festival is celebrated in the month of Margashirsha (December – January). This is when the fortnight of the waxing moon, Vaikuntha Ekadashi, happens. It is said that getting Darshan of Lord Vishnu on this day blesses the devotee that he attains salvation or the abode of Vishnu after this lifetime.

 

Sri Nityananda Trayodashi: this day is celebrated to remember Lord Balaram when he appeared in the avatar of Sri Nrityananda in front of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and helped him spread the teachings of Lord Krishna to people.

 

On this day, devotees also observe fast for the entire day; they pray to the supreme all day long and seek for spiritual strength. They break the fast in the evening when the "Pallaki Utsav" commences.

 

Sri Gaura Purnima: this day depicts Lord Krishna's legend when he appeared on Earth as Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. 

 

Sri Krishna Janmashtami: Janmashtami is the most celebrated festival that happens in all the ISKCON temples. This is the birthday of Lord Krishna, which holds the highest significance at every ISKCON. Lacs of devotees visit the Krishna temples and celebrate his birth with kirtans, artis, observing fast and deep devotion.

 

Delicacies of 108 different types are prepared to offer the deity, distributed among the devotees as Maha Prasadam.

 

How to Reach Iskcon Temple Bangalore

 

Those who find the Air network more comfortable can land at Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore. From there, you can hire a private cab, or if you want to take the bus, get to the Mahalakshmi Layout Entrance bus stop, and you would be at your destination.

 

The best time to visit the temple is November to February since humidity is the lowest. Also, you would feel a slight hint of winters. There won't be any showers as well since Monsoon gets over too.

 

If you want to see the temple in its glory, then visit during any major festival or at the time of Arti hours.
