QuickBooks running slow

Intuit aims to make sure that the pages you use the most in QuickBooks load quickly in about 10 seconds. Intuit always watches the systems to make sure they are working well and meeting the concerned goal. QuickBooks works on the internet, but it also needs your computer's power, how much memory it has (called RAM), and how strong your internet connection is. If any of these things are not good enough, QuickBooks might not work as fast as it should. To figure out why your QuickBooks running slow, check if your system meets these basic requirements.

Solutions to Fix an Unresponsive QuickBooks

Use Recommended operating systems and internet speeds

If you are unsure about which operating system your computer is using, you can visit the Windows version page or the Mac version page to find out.

For Windows PC

  • You will need at least Windows 10.
  • Your computer should have an Intel Core i5 or a similar processor (from 2015 or later).
  • Make sure your computer has a minimum of 4 GB of RAM.
  • Remember, you will need Adobe Reader 11.0 or a newer version to print forms.

For Mac

  • Your computer's operating system should be at least "Big Sur" 11.1 or a more recent version.
Your internet connection should have a speed of 3 Mbps or higher.

Minimum system requirements and internet bandwidth

For Windows PC

  • Operating system: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i3 or a similar processor (from 2013 or later)
  • RAM: At least 2 GB

For Mac

  • Operating system: OS X El Capitan 10.11 or a newer version
Additionally, ensure your internet connection meets this baseline:
  • Internet speed: A minimum of 1.5 Mbps
Remember, these are the most basic requirements for QuickBooks to operate. While the recommended specs offer better performance, these minimums allow you to get started.

Here is how to make QuickBooks Online work better

  • Are you using Google Chrome? We think Chrome works best for QuickBooks Online. If you are already using Chrome, make sure it is the newest version. You can do that by going to the Chrome menu, then picking Help, and finally About Google Chrome.
  • Check that your computer's operating system is up-to-date and that it is at least as good as what QuickBooks Online needs.
  • See if your internet speed is stopping QuickBooks Online from working well. You can run a Google Speed Test to find out how fast your connection is. To understand the test results better, make sure to read how the results are figured out and what they mean.
If you find that your QuickBooks Desktop or Online is still lacking the speed that is supposed to deliver or is just not responding to your command, there could be other reasons hidden in the system. You can fix these invisible issues by fixing the installation issues in QuickBooks Desktop and updating your browser and clearing it cache and cookies.
