How To Be Sure That Your Kids Are Protected While In The Kitchen

So you have made your dream kitchen and everything seems perfect, but is it? After all the fact that you like the outcome of your imagination doesn't necessarily mean that the kitchen is safe. And that goes by full strength if you have small kitchen running around. Most of the appliances and specially the oven can be quite dangerous if not protected.

Here are some useful tips on how to safety-proof your appliances and how to use the entire kitchen safely.

First of all, the best way to protect your children from the kitchen is of course to deny them access to the cooking area, but as we all know that is almost impossible. So start with the isolation of the dangerous appliances and silverware. And of course the best appliance to start with is the oven. If you have a modern convection cooktop, you can just lock it (most of them have that function). But if you're still cooking with a hotplate the best thing to do is to cover the cooktop while not cooking. Another good tip is to block the power on-off switches if you can, because if a kid turns them to on the entire oven can easily get hot even while covered. So when it comes to the oven, covered and with the switches blocked is the best option for you.

Next in line maybe the most dangerous tools in the kitchen, the knifes. Keep them somewhere high and in some wooden block or secured in a drawer. Remember to put them in place right after use. A knife in the wrong place can easily harm a child or even an adult by accident.

And one bit of advice that we rarely tend to follow, but is as important as those above. In some cases even more. Clothes, jewelery and hair. Those three things are highly important while in the kitchen. Don't ever cook with loose clothes and if you have long hair, always tie it. It's so easy to catch up on fire, specially if your cooktop is a gas one. So don't take any chances. And of course finding a hair in the meal is not the best thing, so keep it tied up.

Preparing your favorite meal with the jewelry on is also not the best idea. A bracelet can easily be caught up in the pot handle. Not to mention that your favorite earring can fall into the bowl of soup, making the whole meal uneatable and damaging the earring itself.

Perform some regular cleanups of the entire kitchen, even if it's not dirty. You never know what can be stuck behind the oven, the fridge or some other heavy appliance. Some food or whatever can be stuck over there and in the time can produce nasty smell and all sorts of other things. If you don't feel like cleaning call some professional cleaners to assist you. They will gladly do the job and leave only thepan on fire pleasure of cooking for you.

And last but not least, keep a functional fire extinguisher right by your side in the kitchen. Take it to regular maintenance checks because a functional fire extinguisher can be the difference between a quickly extinguished fire or a burned down apartment.

In Conclusion

Furnishing and starting to use your new kitchen is surely awesome, but take some time for safety. You can never be too cautious so don't take any chances and secure anything on time.
