Is it possible to Add Startup Sounds on Your Mac?

by james thomsan blogger

Startup Sounds are of no exact use, but still, some people desire to have a personal touch on their Mac. Although in the previous variants of Mac the starting bong was included, eventually the system sound was abandoned.

Are you wondering if a startup sound can be added to your Mac? Well yes, you can add a startup sound on your Mac. It can be your favorite song or a catchy tone, you can set any of them as you please, and you can even add your voice as a starting sound which can provide a personal touch to your Mac.

By using the built-in Automator app on your Mac, you can create various scripts to play the sound files of your choice that can be used in the startup sound. This app will help you in preparing scripts to play any song that you wish. But bear in mind that your chosen track will play ever an individual time when you log in to your Mac so try to choose small tracks. Also, those tracks which are protected by iTunes will also not play due to copyrights issues.

Follow the steps below to prepare scripts for your Macs startup sound.

  1. Head to the “Finder” Window and select “Applications” from there and then open the “Automator” app.
  2. Select the Application option and then select the”Choose” option.
  3. Keep a look at the top-left of your screen to ensure that Action is highlighted.
  4. Now you have to select the “Utilities” option located at the “Action Library”.
  5. Now pick “Run Shell Script” and drop it in the “Workflow segment”.
  6. Now you have to type “afplay” in the Run Shell Script box. And continue the command with the file name and path name where the file is stored.

By following the given steps correctly, you can create a script to add a sound to your Mac during startup. Before saving the script try to test it and make sure that it works. To perform a test to ensure that your created script works to press the “Run button” that is at the top-right corner of your screen.

If you want to add a personal text and play it in default Apple audio, you can follow the given steps.

  1. First you have to Launch the “System Preferences” and then choose “Accessibility” option.
  2. Now you have to opt for the “Speech” option from the left-hand menu.
  3. And now select the “System voice” option and choose the voice from the available list.
  4. Now hit play to have a preview of your sound.
