Is Invisalign Right For You?

by Divya S. Content Writer
Sydneysiders who want to achieve a smile as beautiful as the Harbour City in which they live need to know how they can go about doing so in a comfortable, effective and highly discreet manner. One of the biggest things to happen in the world of Australian orthodontics in recent years has been the arrival in Sydney of Invisalign braces, the teeth-straightening procedure that presents a clear alternative to braces.

Putting ‘unsightly’ fears to rest
For many adults and teens, the prospect of having to wear ‘unsightly’ braces makes them think twice about getting their teeth straightened. For some, the thought of having a mouthful of metal and elastics will be enough to put them off pursuing their dream of a confident smile altogether. These fears, while once valid, are no longer so for most people, thanks to technological advances in teeth straightening such as Invisalign.

How does it work?
Invisalign clear braces use a series of transparent, removable and comfortable aligners to move your teeth into the correct position. This means you can still smile confidently during treatment. Using 3D computer imaging technology, Invisalign creates individual personalised aligners using medical grade plastic.

Invisalign clear aligners are initially worn for 2 weeks, day and night, only being removed for eating, drinking and brushing. After this first two-week period, you move onto your next pair of aligners that you wear for another 2 weeks. This process continues until you have completed all aligners in the series and your teeth have straightened into their final position, as prescribed by your Specialist Orthodontist.

Invisalign braces are available from leading Specialist Orthodontists in Sydney, for both adults and teens.

Invisalign Teen
For teens, in addition to its more aesthetically pleasing appearance, Invisalign has a number of benefits over traditional braces. Better oral hygiene and reduced enamel damage, less discomfort, fewer dietary restrictions and less orthodontic appointments are all made possible by Invisalign Teen treatment.

While Invisalign cannot be used in every instance, most teens and their parents are pleasantly surprised to find that this near-invisible treatment can be used even to address more complex issues, such as correction of overbites, underbites or other dental problems.

Invisalign for Adults
Though it’s generally easier to straighten teeth before they’re fully set in place, the process of straightening teeth with Invisalign for adults is entirely possible, and achieves remarkable results. Adult wearers enjoy all the same benefits as teen wearers, and, in fact, may have even more impetus to choose this teeth-straightening option, in order to avoid the ‘high school’ image associated with traditional braces.

The cost for ‘invisible’ teeth straightening
You might expect the Invisalign aligners cost to be higher than that of traditional metal braces, but the best orthodontists will not charge you more for this procedure. Rather than being affected by the type of aligner chosen, cost of treatment will be dependent on a number of factors, including how severely the teeth are misaligned and how long it will take to make the necessary changes to straighten the teeth. Good orthodontist practices will offer payment plans to ensure that the treatment is available to everyone, whatever their budget. Depending on the reason for the treatment, it may also be worth researching any potential cover provided by your health insurer for dental procedures.

Understandably, the process of teeth straightening has traditionally been an area of concern for both teenagers and adults. With the advent of Invisalign, worries about the ‘unsightly’ appearance of braces has been laid to rest, making a confident smile more easily achievable for all.
