by Andria Scott Writer

Bored of that same old iPhone interface. Well, notanymore! Because iOS 14 has brought a new feature that will allow users to play around with the interface to create an aesthetical home screen. The iOS 14 update that we are talking about can replace the default app icons with images to suit your taste. So, keep reading to know how you can customize the way your iPhone’s home screen icons look.

How to Change the Appearance of App Icons on iPhone

With the new iOS 14, you can customize app icons to your liking. But you must know that this feature has its limitations. For one, tapping on a Custom App Icon will launch the shortcut of that app first, and then the actual app. Also, you will no longer be able to see notification badges on the app icons. These limitations shouldn’t cause any harm to the processing of your iOS. So here is how to customize app icons:

Step 1. Open the Shortcuts (pre-installed) app on your iPhone.

Step 2. Tap the plus icon, which you will find in the top right corner.

Step 3. Now, tap on the Add Action option.

Step 4. Type Open app in the search bar and tap on it once it appears.

Step 5. Tap Choose. A list of all your apps will open up. Here, select the app you want to customize. For example, Pinterest, Netflix, Instagram, or any other messaging app.

Step 6. Tap the hamburger menu (three dots) in the upper right corner. Here, you will be asked to give the shortcut a name. Once done, tap Add to Home Screen.

Step 7.  Now you have to find the image that you would like to use as your app icon. So, open the Safari app, find an image that suits the app icon, and save to your photos.

Step 8. Again, open the Shortcuts app and tap the current icon. From the options that appear, tap on Choose Photo and select the image you just saved. You may zoom in or out on the image to adjust it in a way you want it to appear. Then tap Choose.

Step 9. Hit Add.

Your app icon should now be customized with the image you wanted to use. Also, remember that the original apps will remain on your phone, you just have to store them together in a folder.

How to Change the Home Screen Design on iPhone

With iOS 14 on your iPhone, you no longer have to have the same old home screen view. So, to change the way the rows of apps on your iPhone look, follow the instructions below.

Step 1. First of all, download the Widgetsmith app on your iPhone.

Step 2. Open the app and select the size at which you would like to set the widgets. You can choose from small, medium, and large.

Step 3. Also, you can tap on an individual widget to customize its font and colors. Then tap Save when you’re finished.

Step 4. Now, open your home screen and press and hold down on an app. Then tap Edit Home Screen.

Step 5. Next, you will have to tap on the plus icon in the top left corner, then search and tap on Widgetsmith.

Step 6. Choose the colors of the widget and tap Add Widget.

And you are done! Now your home screen has a customized look with different sized icons plus different font, color, and an image icon. That was all about customizing the app icons with the updated iPhone. We hope that you are keeping up with all the fantastic features that iOS 14 has bought with it.
