Investing in India's Future with KCT Renewables

by Ankita Sehgal Freelance Blogger, Lives in New Delhi
The fast-evolving economy of India today demands a robust energy infrastructure to meet its rising demand. The country is largely dependent on coal to meet its energy needs. But coal is a fossil fuel, and fossils are non-renewable sources of energy. This means that they will eventually dwindle, become too expensive and too environmentally damaging for use. So what's the solution? The solution lies in diversifying.

Thankfully, there are many different sources of renewable energy, such as wind and solar, which are constantly replenished and inexhaustible. Indeed, renewable energy is the mantra for energy expansion in India. In view of this, India is running one of the most ambitious renewable capacity expansion programs in the world. In fact, India was the first country in the world to set up a ministry of non-conventional energy resources, in as early as the 1980s.

There are various sources of renewable energy such as wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, ocean energy, biomass energy and also fuel cell technology all of which can be used to overcome the gaps in energy supply in India. Among these, the scope for wind and solar energy is the highest. India has led the initiative of the International Solar Alliance project, promoting the growth and development of solar power in over 120 countries.

The development of wind power has increased significantly in India in the last few years. Thanks to domestic policy support, today India has 5,500 MW, that is, the fourth largest installed wind power capacity in the world. The government has introduced a slew of tax incentives to encourage indigenous investment in enhancing India’s renewable energy portfolio. Today, wind power capacity addition is spread across the south, west and northern regions of the country.

The KCT Group is one of the leading business conglomerates in India today born in 1929. It made its foray into the renewable energy sector with KCT Renewables in 2014 with interest in wind power. Right from finding the most appropriate site, undertaking detailed wind study reports, selecting the best wind turbine generators for optimum results, to maintaining the project throughout its life cycle, KCT Renewables is keenly involved in each milestone of a project that is commissioned.
