Insurance that Makes Shipping Claims Fast and Easy

by Kevin Smith Author

When looking for shipping insurance for your packages, one thing to consider is what will happen if you or your recipient needs to file a claim. Cost is usually the only thing people consider when purchasing insurance, but you should also consider shipping claims processing.

Filing Convenience

The first question you should ask yourself is, “How easy will it be if I have to file a claim?” If you are required to call or fill out paper forms and mail them to a customer support center to file a shipping claim, run in the opposite direction. In today’s logistics, customers should to able to file their claims with their shipping insurance companies online by using a fast and user-friendly interface.

An Example

Imagine you’ve shipped an order to a customer and it arrived damaged. You should be able to go onto your shipping insurance company’s website, select the type of claim you wish to file, fill in the necessary information, and click a “submit” button. Once you’ve done that, you should receive your claim number, be able to upload requested documents, and issue an affidavit request to your buyer all electronically. This is a user-friendly shipping claims process.

Claim Duration

Another consideration is how long will it take the company to process your claim and issue the necessary adjustments. If an insurance company requires you to fill out paperwork and mail it in, you might be looking at a month or more before the situation is rectified. A good timeframe for the company and you is about seven to 10 business days. This gives them time to process your complaint without you or your customer having to wait too long for resolution.

The ability to file shipping claims are why you insure your mailings in the first place. Make certain you work with an insurer that makes this process quick and seamless instead of slow and painful.
