Insight on Rudraksha-Re-Energize Your Life

by Maria Dsoza ***

Rudraksha is a well-known term in Hinduism and anyone who is familiar with it can instantly imagine a betel nut kind of seed which is bigger in size, and is obviously filled with powers. The seed is completely organic and is produced by a variety of massive evergreen wide leaved trees. Elaeocarpus ganitrus is the most preferred species, which is used to prepare the bead for making organic jewellery or use in a Rudraksha mala.

The Rudraksha tree species need certain conditions for growth in mountainous regions. They are mostly found in Nepal, Indonesia, Thailand and Burma; the best quality is found in the Himalayas and some areas in the Western Ghats region of south India.

Rudraksha beads are generally not worn with any metal, so it is better to wear them on a cord or a string rather than wearing them in chains. Research has it that the word Rudraksha is a compound Sanskrit term-it means, ‘Rudra’ is SHIVA and ‘Aksha’ means TEARDROPS. The beads are used for spiritual purposes, of which, meditation is the most common use. Hence, they are also known as Rudraksha prayer beads.

Rudraksha and its Mukhis:

People choose these beads according to their purpose - they are classified according to the MUKHIS (FACES) and the size of the Rudraksha. Mukhis are vertical or horizontal stalk points that naturally start from one end and meet the other end of the bead. There are several kinds of beads ranging from of 1 to 21 Mukhis in addition to other types, such as Trijuti and Ganesh Rudraksha.

Of all Rudraksha beads, the 1 mukhi (EK MUKHI) Rudraksha is the most powerful and the Himalayan variety is the rarest, while the 5 mukhi (PANCHMUKHI) type is most common, being widely available.

Benefits of using a Rudraksha:

  • Rudraksha is basically a fruit that is blue in colour initially, but turns black once it is dried. The centre of the fruit has a wide range of faces, ranging from 1 to 21, which occur naturally. It is believed that a person wearing this bead is directly protected by Lord Shiva-the God of gods.

  • Wearing a Rudraksha is the highest way of seeking protection and positivity directly from Lord Shiva. According to Rudraksha therapy, the wearer experiences a sudden flow of positive energy and is able to concentrate on his or her life issues in the most productive manner.

  • Positivity from the Rudraksha bead can be experienced by the wearer within the first 3-4 days of wearing it. This is possible only with the genuine beads, which are acquired from reliable sources and energised for the purpose. In case the wearer is practicing mediation on a regular basis, the results come faster.

  • Rudraksha beads are proven to work on the chakras in a human body in relation to the planetary energy governing the wearer. Just like gems, Rudraksha is to be worn on specific body parts, in order to get the desired outcome.

  • Moreover, Rudraksha can be a boon for constant travellers, who are forced to spend time in different places (eating and sleeping in different locations) due to their work schedules. Wearing a Rudraksha provides a sheath to the wearer’s own energy and safeguards it from getting negatively affected.
