2: A woman may bleed after sexual intercourse too. This could happen due to a vaginal or cervical infection. 2: Another probable reason could be vasa previa, a rare condition characterized by the baby’s blood vessels in the placenta reaching the birth canal opening. The risks are high as the blood vessels may tear open and restrict the oxygen supply to the fetus. The fetal heart rate may also be affected.

3: Sudden and heavy bleeding accompanied by severe abdominal pain and expulsion of clot is an indication of placental abruption. It is a rare but fatal condition that puts the mother and baby at risk.
