Importance of Yoga

by Bernadette N. Business

Passed on from generations and generations in the Indian subcontinent, Yoga is one of the best exercises that a person can do in their daily life. The yogis in India meditated and performed yoga asanas and poses to improve their body’s stamina and immunity. This is one of the main reasons for their long and healthy lives. These days, yoga has gained popularity all over the world and is very quickly becoming one of the best physical and mental exercises for people of all ages. Kids as young as 4 years old are being taught how to meditate and do yoga poses to improve their body’s stamina, increase their brainpower and enhance their body’s immunity.

There are a lot of professional yoga classes in every city all over the world where people flock to enjoy their everyday practice. You can easily find a yoga centre or a professional yoga teacher in your area to start your daily yoga practice. But why is yoga so essential for the mind and body? What makes it so special that even doctors and therapists are recommending it to everyone these days?

Yoga improves the blood flow to the areas and muscles in the body that are difficult to stretch and that are not exercised much. When blood flow is regulated, the body feels relaxed and the tensed muscles also calm down. This promotes stress relief that helps in reducing high blood pressure, anxiety and it also helps to improve vision, body mobility and flexibility.

Yoga also helps get rid of body fat through the intense yoga asanas and helps to control body weight. People can spend many hours at the gym and not lose any weight simply because they aren’t exercising the right muscles. Yoga helps to exercise each and every part of the body which helps lose weight and also fight away harmful disease. Therapists recommend yoga to people suffering from asthma, anxiety, sleep disorders and other mental illnesses. This is because yoga relaxes the mind and yoga classes helps remove tension and over-thinking.
