I am a musician. How Do I Sell My Songs to make money out of it?

by kapil Mehta # Guest Blogger

Here is what it goes into minds-

I've got a song, and I KNOW it is good. How? My friends and family admire it and say it's as good and you should do something for it. Now, what do I do? How do I get a demo of how to publish it? Do I copyright it? Should I join ASCAP or BMI? Where do I send it? How do I sell my songs?

If you've written a song that sounds like it could appeal to today's listeners if it is something that has a memorable chorus, focused lyrics and fresh approach, then you can start thinking about how to pitch your song to music publishers or record labels.

If you're thinking about becoming a recording artist yourself, always remember that many of today's top artists and producers started off as songwriters first and gradually have become artists. After nearly closing the publishing deals with various websites is the first step in this direction.

Songwriters rarely sell their songs; they get associated with brand and labels for doing so. When you (as a songwriter) make a deal with a publisher, record label, or artist to record the song, it's usually in the form of a contract or license. Sometimes, the publisher use the words like "work for hire" in on their website. It means that they will own your song copyright. Any contract that you sign, should include language that ensures you will receive the writer's share of royalties of all kinds and participation like any fees received, plus other safeguards, as mentioned and agreed by both the parties in their contract. Ensure to consult a music business attorney before signing any contract.

For every type of music you create, you need to adhere to proper guidelines. Let's find out who might want to submit a song on a channel that gives and shares words in masses through various activities.

  • Study the website completely to become successful -

All successful songwriters listen to and study successful songs to find out what today's listeners like and prefer. It is strongly recommended to take some time to look inside today's hit songs to check what makes them the tick.

  • Study about performances in the competition-

Study about the kinds of songs do they excel at? Big choruses? Intimate versus soaring melodies? or check if they are better at Pop/Rock or Country? You need to write about the song that will make this artist sound good, focus on their strengths and something with a fresh, contemporary feel and an appealing theme.

  • Search for their contact info.  -

The famous artists' are the buzz in the industry. They may be deciding which label to get sign up with. They might not have a professional team who will be working with them.

Do your research; try to find out their contact details or email address through YouTube channel, Facebook page, manager's detail/contact number, or agent's number. You can you contact that person via email, Google+, Facebook, MySpace, their website directly.

  • Try “grass roots” campaign-

If your research doesn't turn up into a fruitful juncture, or you don't hear back from them, get involved with their fans ana followings. They are in plenty on Facebook groups, Twitter, and Google+

Join their fan following community. Make sure to participate as a fan. Make your way through contacts and try to find out a way by figuring out which songs their fans like the most. Make your song public on Soundcloud, share the link in the groups, and ask their opinions and feedback and improvise.

If the fans are getting crazy and excited about your song, and you manage to get a good number of tractions, someone close to the artist is definitely going to notice.
