Huawei will Likely Be first to launch 5G phones in India: Peter Zhai

He Honor brand in the stable of China's telecom solutions provider Huawei is completing three years in India this past year.

What has been your learning and promote plan in India?

There are a lot of opportunities in the Indian market, but not everybody can see what will happen tomorrow. In the previous three decades, many manufacturers have come and gone. You should ensure that customers like your goods; just then can you survive in the smartphone business. Lots of individuals change their smartphones very quickly these days. So, how do you build loyalty? The very important for us is sales -- which is how a brand can survive in the long run. Thus in terms of market share, we are more focused on customer experience, sustainability, and profitability in the long run.

In India, customer satisfaction hinges a lot on after-sales services, an area which a whole lot of companies don't focus on...

You've already established a couple of wearable devices. How do you find the future of this section with all these competitors, including watch manufacturers, entering the arena?

Our group was quickly sold in the marketplace, over our expectations. We are already in talks with some banking partners, but I can't name them right now. We will shortly have an announcement. It will be a special solution for customers. We're customizing the solutions as per India's requirements and will soon be launching the services in the next 3-4 months.

Talking about competition, Huawei includes a long-term plan in terms of what we can do in the next 10 decades. We aren't focused on short-term marketplace gains, but long-term plans along with a variety of partnerships and customers in long-term. We believe consumers will talk more about our products, be loyal to our own brands and spread the word.

At the policy level, there has been a lot of debate about China-manufactured products. Can you find some issue/difficulty doing business in India?

It is great that carriers, such as Reliance Jio, can provide such cheap data and phones to earn 4G popular and teach the marketplace. However, Huawei will not play in the cheap 4G feature phones segment. If people start adopting information, they upgrade their phones and desire greater user-friendly experience. Even if they (operators) ask us to manufacture handsets in low costs (₹2,000), we won't be doing that, as that is not our main focus.

Huawei will probably be the number one company to push out 5G phones and infrastructure in India as soon as the 5G system is prepared. A good deal of work is being carried out at our R&D center, but I cannot give details right now. We have not yet launched Notebooks in India. It will take some more time.
