How Will You Understand Which Car Trailer Is Suitable For You

by Luis Jimenez Auto Transport And Manufacturing Business
Over the years it has been seen that people typically are not quite sure how to evaluate a car hauler trailer. They just know about the size and the approximate weight capacity, that's all. But a trailer is not contained in these two concepts.

Thus, if you know the exact ins and outs, you will never meet with any trailer complexity.

The Frame

The frame construction makes a big difference in the overall integrity of a trailer. A trailer frame is constructed from three main shapes of steel. They are Channel Iron, Box Tubing, and Angle Iron.

Box tubing has the best properties of resisting twists with better flexibility than any other frame material. You can experience this on your own. Just stand on the rear corner of a trailer, even if it is a flatbed dual axle car hauler.

  • If the frame twists and flexes in surprising amounts, it is most likely an Angle Iron formation.
  • If it twists and flexes in a noticeable amount, then it is probably a Channel Iron formation.
  • And if it does not twist and flex at all even if you jump on the frame, then it is definitely a Box Tube formation.

Repeated flexing of joints in the welding can cause the welds to fatigue and crack over time. This is why you must choose Box Tube frame construction or at least a combination of Box Tube and Channel Iron frame. Tube frames are slightly expensive than Angle frames but the benefits far outweigh the cost difference.

Tongue Length

The tongue length is a critical component to determine stability of a trailer. Longer tongue proves to be helpful for the towing vehicle while steering the trailer. Shorter tongue generally exerts 15 percent of the trailer weight on the ball. On the contrary, longer tongue only need around 10 percent of the weight. This means less weight on the towing vehicle and more on the trailer. Longer tongue also allows for easier backing.

Coupler

Coupler is an important part of inspection. The coupler is the part which attaches the trailer with the vehicle. A damaged or worn out coupler should be replaced as soon as noticed. Make sure it is not twisted or bent and attaches the towing vehicle securely without sloppiness.

These helpful tips will surely educate you a lot about the trailers. Remember, the more you know, the more you help yourself in buying a great trailer.
