How Volunteering will change your life?

by Blake Maley Marketing Consultant

Have you considered volunteering before? Perhaps you’re not sure where to start? Well just to let you know, there are plenty of disability support volunteering opportunities in Perth.

Give back to your community and you’ll not only get the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping others, but you might just meet your new best friend. Volunteering offers help to people in need, for worthwhile causes but can also benefit you, keeping you socially engaged and mentally stimulated.

At Interchange WA, their vision is for a world where everyone is fully included in every aspect of community life. When you volunteer with them, “everything counts” and you’ll be joining WA’s most experienced Community Inclusion specialists.

There are a variety of WA NDIS Service Providers who are looking for volunteers to help them support people within their communities. If you’re looking for a sense of purpose outside of your regular job, why not consider contribute your skills to others or even just giving back in simple ways.

Here’s a few benefits of volunteering that can help you feel healthier and happier!

  • Volunteering connects you to others, people you may not necessarily meet in your existing social circles
  • Volunteering can help you to look after your own mental health, providing you with a sense of purpose
  • Volunteering can bring a different sense of fun and fulfillment to your life

Quite simply, volunteering can make you incredibly happy. Scientists have measured hormones and brain activity which showed that being helpful to others delivers immense pleasure, releasing dopamine and serotonin. So, it goes to suggest that the more we give, the happier we feel – what have you got to lose?!

If you’re worried about making a commitment, don’t worry! Volunteering doesn’t have to mean you give up all your free time, research shows that just two to three hours per week, or about 100 hours a year, can offer the most benefits. Don’t push yourself to volunteer more than you can! It’s important that you only volunteer in the capacity that feels comfortable to you – it should feel like a fun and engaging hobby, not a chore.
