by Amili R. SEO

The nation has witnessed remarkable upgradation in the modern agri machineries in the past seven decades. Among all machineries, the evolution of tractors in India is fascinating as well as remarkable in many ways. Coming out from severe food crisis phase, the country has reached to a situation now where it has become capable of exporting several food products. Moreover, it’s one of the major exporters of agri machineries as well.

Amongst all agri machineries, manufacturing of ultra-modern tractors has made India one of the leading manufacturers across the world. And can you guess which country can be the leading importer of Indian tractors? It might sound unbelievable, but the truth is the proverbial world super power USA is the leading importer country of Indian tractors.

Fitted with different capacity engines, Indian tractors of 23 different brands are being exported to foreign countries. Who would have imagined in the year 1960 when Indian tractor needs was solely depended upon imports that from the very next year India will not only start manufacturing tractors it will start exporting as well. The manufacturing of Indian tractors started with almost five big industrial houses. Though it started on a steady note but it quickly got the momentum.

Easy credit facility for farmers in eighties brought massive boost to this sector. With the change in economic policies the lending rules for farmers specially for buying tractors continued to become hassle-free and this created huge opportunity for tractor industry in India.

The best tractors in India also started reaching to countries like Africa in mid-nineties. When central Government abolished the rule of obtaining industrial license for tractor manufacturing, the tractor manufacturing in India got major boost.

From being a tractor importer to moving towards tractor exporter was a welcome change in this sector. By this time some of the regions like Punjab has already experienced a saturation stage. By late nineties, tractor density in Punjab was as high as 82 per 1000 hectare against Indian average of 12.4. That time the world average was 17.4 and the average in developed countries was 32.1.

More and more companies started tractor manufacturing in India and intense competition led to rapid transformation in quality, sturdiness and design. Many companies had started claiming that they are the producers of best tractors in India.

If Indian agriculture industry witnessed massive change in late nineties, ultra-modern high capacity tractors were the integral part of it. They brought much needed mechanization and that helped to scale up the food production. Though reforms in several more areas are needed to make Indian agriculture self -reliant but what tractor in India brought to Indian farmers has always been a fascinating story to read and share among-st its stakeholders. The importance of best tractors in India will continue to inspire and motivate the leading players of this sector to consistently offer best products to the Indian farmers.
