How To Update Aadhaar Card – A Complete Guideline

After the issuance of Aadhaar was started by the Government of India through the Unique Identification Authority of India, a lot of new updates have been introduced in the core process. Similarly, many residents have changed their mobile numbers, in case of female residents, their surnames after marriage, or residential address.

If you are one of those residents who has changed any of the details mentioned above, then it’s important for you to update your Aadhaar details accordingly. But there is nothing to worry as UIDAI provides services online, by downloading the application form, through the post, or by visiting an enrolment centre to update Aadhar details.

How to Update Aadhaar Card Online

If you want to change or update your personal details on Aadhaar card online, keep in mind the following steps -

  • Go to the UIDAI official website.

  • Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and click on the “Send OTP” option.

  • Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number and click on the “Submit” button.

  • Once the text verification is complete, click on the field which you want to change. At present, you can only change/update your address by visiting the UIDAI website.

  • Now, upload the scanned copies of the proofs that contain your updated information.

  • After you have finished uploading the digital copies, you will receive an Update Request Number or URN. This URN number will help you to track the status of your request to update/change Aadhaar card information.

  • You can print a copy of this URN receipt for future reference.

  • Finally, download the e-copy of your Aadhaar card which is valid everywhere like the paper document.

How to Update Aadhaar Card via Postal Service

You can also update your info on Aadhaar card by sending the application to UIDAI office via post. To do that, just follow the steps given below.

  • Download and print the application form available at the UIDAI official website.

  • Fill the updated information of the details which you want to change in your Aadhaar card.

  • Attach all the required documents that will authenticate the changes you have mentioned in the application form.

  • In an envelope, enclose both the documents of proof and application form and write “Aadhaar Update/Correction” on top of it. Then, send it to the address mentioned below.

How to Update Aadhaar Card by visiting an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre

Since UIDAI only offers the online service to update/change residential address, if you want to update your name, date of birth, email ID, or mobile number, you have to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre. After visiting the enrolment centre, all you have to do is -

  • Fill the Aadhaar update request application which you can avail at the enrolment centre.

  • Verify the details entered by you. You must be careful while entering your details to prevent the application being rejected.

  • Attach self-attested copies of documents of proof to validate the changes you have requested to be made on the Aadhaar card.

  • Pay Rs.25 as the processing fee.

List of documents that serves a Proof of Identity (PoI)

  • Voter card.

  • PAN card.

  • Ration card.

  • Passport.

  • Driving license.

  • Marriage registration certificate.

List of documents that serve as Proof of Address (PoA)

  • Bank Passbook.

  • Water bill.

  • Address Certificate issued by the authority of rural areas.

  • Property Tax of the last 3 months.

  • Electricity bill (for the last 3 months).

  • Telephone bill (for the last 3 months).

List of documents that serve as Proof of Identity (POI) for Date of Birth

  • Birth certificate.

  • SSLC certificate.

  • Passport.

Things to Remember For Aadhaar Card Update

  • The details that need to be submitted must be in capital letters.

  • The changes that you have requested on the application must be error-free and the documents must be in accordance to the norm.

  • The documents must be attested by the cardholder.

  • The updated Aadhaar card will be delivered to the address mentioned in the Aadhaar letter and it will be handed only to the applicant at his/her residence.

  • Keep the URN in a safe place to use it as future reference and to check the update status.

How to Avoid Rejections of Aadhaar Card Update Requests

  • Do not forget to self-attest all the documents that you would submit as proofs.

  • If there is any mismatch of facts entered in the form with the submitted document, the request for Aadhaar card update will not be accepted.

  • The update/correction request form must be absolutely error-free and complete.

  • The documents of proof should be in accordance with the update/correction request.

If your request for update gets rejected, you can again send another request to update/correct your Aadhaar document

Aadhaar Card Update: Tips & Tricks

  • You can update/change Aadhaar card details online – At present, you can only update your address in Aadhaar card by visiting the online portal of UIDAI. But to update any details other than your address you have to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre nearest to your residence.

  • You have to provide any proof to update the address on Aadhaar
    card online – Once you finish submitting your details, upload scanned copies of
    PoAs from the list of documents mentioned in the UIDAI website.

  • Do not forget to register your mobile number with Aadhaar to avail Aadhaar-related facility online – Visit nearby Aadhaar enrolment centres and submit a request for your Aadhaar card-mobile number registration. You do not need to submit any proof to register your mobile number with Aadhaar.

  • You do not have to fill-in the update request application in English only – You can fill-in your Aadhaar update request application in a language you are comfortable with.

  • Download your newly updated Aadhaar once the information is updated – On the UIDAI website, you can download the updated e-Aadhaar card which is valid everywhere. Also, you can download the mAadhaar app that will enable you to see and use the updated Aadhaar on your smartphone.

  • Update your child’s Aadhaar information easily – You can update the information in your child’s Aadhaar card and attach a photocopy of your Aadhaar card to authenticate your child’s information.

  • Option to revise the submitted details after submitting the request online – Unfortunately you cannot change any information after the request has been submitted.

  • You do not need to provide your old Aadhaar card data while requesting an update - You do not have to submit your old Aadhaar card during the update or correction process. All you need to do is submit the proof required to update the details in Aadhaar card.
