The QuickBooks Error Code 12002 has been annoying a plethora of QuickBooks users lately. This error appears when using QuickBooks and generally occurs due to a slow internet connection or due to a network timeout.  There are different solutions to get rid of this error, all of which shall be explained in this article.

  • The error could be caused by the firewall or other security software.

  • Erroneous SSL settings.

  • The PC doesn't have enough storage space.

  • The default browser is not set to Internet Explorer.

  • Poor connection with the internet could be another cause.

  • Incorrect system settings related to the Internet.

Procedure to Fix QuickBooks Error 12002

Solution 1: Change Internet Settings

Internet Connection Set Up

  • Access the Run window and type INETCPL.CPL.

  • Press Enter.

  • The next step involves setting Medium-High protection.

  • Go to the Internet option, followed by Security.

  • Click on Connections and choose the LAN settings.

  • Checkmark the box to automatically detect settings

  • Now, uncheck the box beside "Use a proxy server from your LAN".

  • Enter correct I.P. and Port and click on Ok.

  • Proceed to the Advanced tab.

  • Go to Security and click on the option to Use TLS 1.2

  • Press the Ok button.

Solution 2: Make I.E the Default Browser

  • Tap Windows + R keys together.

  • Enter the command “INETCPL.CPL” in the Run box.

  • Click on "Ok".

  • Move on to the Programs tab and choose Internet Explorer as the default browser.

  • Run QuickBooks as an administrator.

Solution 3: Update QuickBooks 

Update QuickBooks Desktop

  • Run QuickBooks as an admin in the No Company Window mode. [Press and hold the Ctrl key]

  • The next process requires the user to visit the Help menu.

  • Pick “Update QuickBooks Desktop”.

  • Now, choose "Update Now."

  • Opt for the "Get Updates" option.

  • Ensure that you choose "Reset Updates."

  • Click "OK" and wait for the downloading to finish.

  • Hit on Close.

  • Run QuickBooks and hit on “Yes" to install the updates.

Solution 4: Discard QuickBooks in the Firewall

  • Click on the "Start" button.

  • Enter "firewall".

  • Open the Windows Firewall.

  • Move on to "Advanced Settings".

  • Right-click "Inbound Rules".

  • Tap the tab labeled "New Rule."

  • Select TCP by clicking on the Port.

  • Tap on Next.

  • Type in the QuickBooks port.

  • For example, for Q.B. 2019, the ports are: “8019, 56728, 55378-55382, 56276, 55368-55372, and 55378-55382.”

  • Click on Allow Connection.

  • Click on Next.

  • Choose each profile from the box that pops up.

  • Name the new rule.

  • Tap on Next, followed by hitting Enter.

  • Repeat the steps for Outbound rules.

Solution 5: Clean Installation of Q.B. Desktop

  • Upon clicking on the start menu, access the Control Panel.

  • Proceed to Programs and Features.

  • Click on QuickBooks and choose Uninstall.

  • Now, rename the QuickBooks folder.

  • Reinstall QuickBooks.

  • Run Q.B. as an administrator.
