How to stay warm this upcoming winter?

by Xerve Id user friendly

As the winter season approaches, people start taking out their warm clothes and blankets from their attics and store rooms. In North-India, places like Delhi experience temperatures as low as 3℃ and some even see temperatures below 0℃.

To prepare for this cold climate, people have to be prepared in advance to keep themselves warm. Here are a few tips on how to stay warm this upcoming winter.

1)      Cover yourself with warm layers

Everyone knows that in winter, they have to wear warm clothes to keep themselves warm. But a very common mistake made by them, is that they wear one very heavy and bulky sweater or jacket to keep themselves warm. The better thing to do here is to put on 2 light layers rather than 1 heavy layer. This way, it becomes more comfortable and the air between the two layers provides extra warmth. Apart from sweaters, also wear gloves, hats, scarves and socks to keep yourself warm.

2)      Eat healthy and drink lots of water

This is the most common advice that we hear on a daily basis for almost any situation. People often underestimate the benefits of eating healthy seasonal food and drinking plenty of water. During winters, the seasonal vegetables like shakarkand (sweet potatoes), bathua, methi, etc give warmth to the body. On the other hand, water regulates our body temperature by acting as a ‘heat reservoir’ in our body.

3)      Keep working and exercising

With all the warmth and coziness, people often become lazy during the winter season. They spend their day lying around in their blankets or just sitting in one place. Avoid the winter blues and stay motivated to keep yourself healthy. Exercising not only keeps us in shape but also maintains the blood flow in our body. Try to step outdoors for a small walk to get some fresh air and get away from the closed surroundings of your house.

4)      Keep your house warm

To regulate the heat in your house, use a thermostat or other proper heating systems. Make sure you regularly get your heating systems serviced and maintained. If you are using a fireplace in the house for the heat, make sure there is a proper exhaust system so that smoke does get filled up inside your home.

5)      Winter-proof your house

Sitting in the warm comfort of our house, sometimes we feel a cold breeze coming in through a window crack or through the keyhole. This can be avoided by winter-proofing your house. Insulating our houses keeps them warm for a longer time and helps save energy. Some easy ways to do this are

Get thick curtains with a lining

Seal the cracks in the door and window frames, the floor and the roof boards

Use aluminum foil to insulate the house and prevent the loss of heat through the wall

When not using a room, close the thermostat and close the door to save electricity and keep the room warm.
