How to Stay Healthy While Traveling
by Reggie Moore Professional writer and proto entrepreneurSpring is here and it's vacation time. However, with the
Coronavirus wreaking havoc all over the globe, travel isn't a good idea. That
doesn't mean vacationers can't enjoy their own countries.
So, vacationers have decided to check out their own country and state. It's
just occurred to you, though, that keeping the family healthy during your
travels won't be easy. Parents can maintain a semblance of health while
traveling but trying to get the kids to eat something green and drink lots of
water is downright impossible.
Not quite. Here are a few tips for maintaining your health
while traveling.
Drink Lots of Water
Dehydration is no fun. It shuts down your body and makes you
extremely sick. To battle this, drinking a bottle of water
every half-hour is recommended to maintain hydration. If plain water bores you,
buy a couple of cases of flavored water or a few boxes of water flavoring
packets.
You might not want to sample the water outside your own state. It could make
you sick, so sticking to bottled water is a healthier idea. Cases of water take
up no more space in the trunk of the car than suitcases, so grab several cases.
Wash Your Hands
We rub our eyes, scratch our noses, and wipe matter off our
mouths without even thinking about it. We especially do these things after
we've turned a doorknob, wiped a clean spot onto a window, or turned a water
handle in a bathroom. These things harbor germs and bacteria.
The germs and bacteria get onto our hands. We then touch our eyes, nose, and
mouth with germy hands. This is how we get sick. Washing your hands frequently
is the answer. If you can't wash your hands, then using hand sanitizer is a
must. Remember not to touch a surface and then touch your face without washing
your hands first.
Pack Your Own Snacks
Although convenient stores and gift shops on Interstate
turnoffs are now stocking healthier snacks, they don't stock fresh fruits and
vegetables. You can pack those along with healthy homemade trail mix, dips for
the fresh veggies, yogurts, and popcorn.
To keep some of the fresh fruits such as apples from turning brown, pack lemon
juice to splash over them. Pack crushed nuts to sprinkle over the yogurt. Nuts
make a great healthy snack, too.
Get Some Exercise
We all know vacation isn't about working out, but about
seeing the sights. However, staying active is what health is all about. There
are dozens of ways of remaining active on a vacation, so pick one or two and
have some fun. Many hotels now have gyms. Their swimming pools have saunas and
spas.
Try walking to the sights instead of taking a cab. You can do yoga or cardio in
your room. Jump rope in the hallway. Run around the nearest park. Get the kids
into a game of volleyball in said park. If you brought the dog with you on
vacation, walk her around town or the park.
Get Lots of Sleep
You've got two weeks free of work-related stress, shrill
rings from a telephone, gridlocked traffic, and screaming people. These things
might keep you awake at home, but you're out of all that for two weeks. You'll
be surprised how a quiet night can get you much-needed restful sleep.
Your body heals itself and resets itself for the next day's business during
sleep. Your mind clears itself of today's memories and knowledge before it
prepares for tomorrow's. Aches and pains go away, and the muscles prepare
themselves for tomorrow's activity.
It's a documented fact that an active body sleeps well. While you're out playing
in the park, riding rides in the amusement park or walking around seeing the
attractions, you'll be preparing your body for deep and restful sleep.
Remember the Sun
Even on cloudy days, people can get sunburned. You're out
having fun, so you won't notice the sun is affecting you. Along with drinking plenty
of water to prevent dehydration, wearing the highest SPF sunscreen available
will protect you from the sun's harmful UV rays. Wearing long-sleeved shirts
and long pants will also protect you from the sun.
Update Your Immunizations
If you've had your Covid-19 vaccinations, then you're one
step ahead of any illnesses you could contract from a new and unfamiliar place.
Make sure your immunizations, flu shots, and any other recommended shots are finished before you get on the plane.
Check with the state you'll be visiting online to see what's required regarding
immunizations. Make sure you take your insurance cards and ID with you in case
you have to visit a doctor while you're vacationing.
Vacations, like this Cook Islands
holiday package, are a fun and carefree time. You and your family can
remain healthy during travel by heeding the tips written above.
