In many cases, the Windows Updates shows issues in itself and refuses to update the files that are already downloaded. You will get the ‘pending changes’ notification on the updated device which declines to install updates. It is suggested to remove Windows 10 update files. To do so, you need to follow the steps mentioned below.

Here’s How to Remove Windows 10 Update Files

•    Delete Contents of the Temporary Folder

1.    Click on the Windows and R keys together.

2.    Enter “%temp%” in the prompt box.

3.    Click on the Enter option.

4.    By going to the directory folder, you will get entries list in case you have not removed contents from the temp folder.

5.    You need to move the copy of this folder to any other folder so that it will help you in the restoring process.

6.    Choose the items.

7.    Then, right-click on them.

8.    Choose the Delete option.

9.    You need to power cycle the system once you have got this.

10.    Check whether you have done this procedure completely.

•    Delete the Content  of Software Distribution Folder

1.    Click on the Windows and S keys together.

2.    Enter “command prompt” in the pop-up box

3.    You need to right-click on the app.

4.    Choose the “Run as administrator” option.

5.    Enter “net stop wuauserv” and “net stop bits” in the given box.

6.    Do not exit from the command prompt.

Now, you need to go to the Windows Update directory and remove all the updated files which are showing on the screen.

Go to the file explorer or My Computer folder and after that, go through the steps mentioned below:

1.    Go to the address which is mentioned below.

2.    Open the Run app.

3.    Start copying and pasting the address.

4.    You need to remove each item given in the Software Distribution folder.

5.    After that, start pasting them to any other folder.

Now, you need to enable the Windows Update service and open it once again. The Update Manager will take time to display information and making the manifest ready for the downloading process. Here are the steps mentioned below to do so:

1.    Click on the Windows and S keys together.

2.    Enter “command prompt’ in the pop-up box.

3.    You need to right-click on the app.

4.    Choose the “Run as administrator” option.

5.    Enter “net start wuauserv” and “net start bits” by going to the command prompt.

6.    Click on the Enter option.

7.    Start the system again.

8.    Now, you have to remove Windows 10 update files.

•    Delete the XML Files

1.    Click on the Windows and R keys together.

2.    Enter “C:\Windows\WinSxS\” in the prompt box.

3.    Click on the Enter option.

4.    Find the directory for the remaining XML files.

5.    After that, press on the delete option.

6.    Start the system.

7.    Check whether you have removed Windows 10 update files successfully.

•    Reset the CatRoot2 folder

1.    Click on the Windows and S keys together.

2.    Enter “cmd” in the prompt box.

3.    You have to right-click on the app.

4.    Choose the Run as administrator option.

5.    When you are in the command prompt, run the below-mentioned command

net stop cryptsvc

6.    MD %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old

7.    After that, remove all the contents saved on the catroot2 folder.

8.    Once you have removed, run the below-mentioned command:

net start cryptsvc
