How to Recognize Advanced Phishing Scams Aimed at Your Gmail Account?

by Melanie Miller Gmail Customer Support Australia

Recently, some quite disturbing news has appeared in the headlines – hackers have found highly effective ways to steal email accounts. According to people from Word Fence, a team of online security experts, the new phishing scam is very hard to detect. In fact, Gmail support is unable to do anything to prevent it as it all depends on how users react. The problem is that the phishing scam is very elaborate, so realizing that you’re being tricked into giving away your login credentials is not easy.

You may receive an email that at the first glance look legit. The email will contain an attachment, which, once you click to download it, will open a whole new tab. The new tab will look exactly like the email login page and will ask from you to type in your password. At this point, many users think that Gmail has crashed and that by login again, they will get back to the account. The problem is that they’ll be typing their password into the software of the hackers!

Because the fraud is very nicely done, not many users realize that they’re giving away their login credentials to hackers. It’s almost impossible to notice the difference between real Gmail and the phishing scam. Of course, this is only true if you don’t know where to look! In this case, you need to check the URL of the login page. If it starts with "https://accounts.google.com", with a padlock icon to the left, everything is in complete order! However, if you see that URL starts with “data:text/html;”, the chances are high that something fishy is going on.

What to Do if Your Gmail Account Gets Compromised?

If you forget to check the URL of the Gmail login page and end up giving away your password to hackers, it still doesn’t mean that your account is lost forever. You can get it back through your mobile phone, under condition that you had completed the two-factor authentication previously. Alternatively, you can ask Gmail customer support Australia to come to your aid.

If retrieving the lost account through the regular method takes too much time, you can call support number and ask tech support to deal with it right away. If you are located in Australia, the number you should call is + (61) 283206011. Alternatively, you can get in touch with Gmail support Australia.
