Collies and Shollies are very smart and are full of energy. Without proper training, it might be very hard to handle them properly. So, it is very important to train them from the very initial days. They are extremely intelligent and can be taught the most complicated things as well. You need to start with the basics and need to move on to the complicated things over time.

Keep reading below to learn about the basic things that you should start with immediately: -

·       Potty Training your puppy- The most important thing that you should have while training them is Patience. You can be sure that there will be many accidents on the mats and the carpets during the training process.

·       You should keep in mind their bathroom schedule and set their timing based on that.  Always let them outside after they eat, or drink, after a nap, after playing, etc.

You will want to pick a place to be used for their toilet area. Take your puppy to the set location every time you think they need to go for the potty. You should also reward them each time they do it easily for them to remain motivated.

It is very vital for you not get angry with them, and hit or yell at them if some mishap happens. This will never help you in any case, and it could make them easily demotivated and confused which will, in turn, prolong your training process.

·       Teaching your Puppy, the basic commands- Basic commands like ‘Sit’, ‘Stay’, “Heel”, ‘Down’ should be the beginning. Repeat these commands every time so that your puppy remembers them. Puppies are easily distracted, by almost anything, so it is necessary to have shorter sessions in the beginning. Rewards are the best thing they deserve and this will also encourage them to learn faster. A Collie, or Shollie from StirlingCollies are very intelligent and once they learn these things, they will remember these commands all their life.

·       Leash Training Your Puppy- Leash training means that you can safely handle your puppy outside your home, or property. It will take time for your puppy to get used to the collar or leash so you will have to train them beforehand to get them used to the collar before their first walk.

These puppies are blessed with intelligence so more often they try to lead their owner, especially since they are from a herding group type dog.  It is good to treat and reward your Collie, or Shollie, each time they are obedient to you so that you can lead them every time, instead of them leading you. Remember, that Collies and Shollies are very rational dogs so it will only take a day or two to get used to their collars, and then on to “heel” command on the leash, and then off leash training later.

Training the Collies and Shollies may seem to be a heinous task and time-consuming but these dogs are very smart, and they love to learn. If you begin the training when you first acquire a Collie or Shollie, then you will have a dog that will listen to you throughout their life.
