What are the Types of Plaster Finishes? Explained

by Story Line Create BIG Dreams

Plastering is the process by which the rough surfaces of walls or ceilings are changed, rotated or applied to ensure smoothness. First, wet materials are distributed in a brick or brick factory, and then suitable equipment is used to level the surface.

The main purpose of the plaster is to obtain a hard and smooth surface that can be painted and provide an aesthetic appearance. Recently, wall surfaces in modern homes have been finished with bricks or blocks or aesthetically attractive stones to show a beautiful appearance.

Wet materials that spread over walls or roofs should not exceed 0.3 cm. However, there are surfaces with irregularities of more than 3 cm. In this case, under the layer, which is a cheap coarse-grained material, is used to apply the surface, followed by a topcoat, which is a thin layer of fine-grained materials.

In addition, for walls made of stones of the wrong and different sizes, three coatings may be required. This is due to the fact that thick under the coat tends to sag due to the weight of the thick wet plaster. That is why stretching a thin layer and curing it with the subsequent application of the second lower layer is the best practice. Finally, a finishing coating is applied to the surface.

Types of Plaster based on Material Used

      Lime Plaster

The lime mixture consists of sand and a line that mixes with 1 sand of 3 lime by volume. Not only is this mixture used for priming, but also as a topcoat. After drying, the lime plaster can be compressed, so that per 1 m2 of hair of an animal weighing about 5 kg is used to avoid cracking and shrinkage of the lime plaster. Linden plaster can be used to restore and rehabilitate ancient structures.

Cement Plaster

Portland cement gray powder is mixed with water in a ratio of 1 cement to 3 or 4 clean washed sands by volume as a primer for a solid background, for example, brick blocks and partitions.

A mixture of sand and cement can be plastic and require experienced and skillful work, so a plasticizer or lime is usually added to the mixture in a volume ratio of 1 cement: 0.25 lime: 3 sand or 1 cement to 4 sand with a plasticizer.

Gypsum Plaster

Gypsum plaster is a widely used gypsum material that can be mined naturally or produced as a by-product. So, gypsum plaster is important, which is used both under and under finish plaster, and widely replaces lime and cement.

In addition, a small expansion of gypsum is considered an essential property that prevents shrinkage and cracking.

There are various types of gypsum plaster that are obtained by heating gypsum to a certain extent, for example, anhydrous gypsum produced by heating gypsum to 170 Co, gypsum hemihydrates obtained by heating gypsum over 170 Co.

External Rendering

As a rule, the external surface of buildings constructed of concrete or clay blocks is not considered aesthetically attractive and does not provide an attractive appearance. That is why the external faces are changed and applied with two or three layers of lime or cement mixed with natural aggregate and finished with a texture or smooth.

In addition, rendering Kent improves and increases the resistance of walls to rain. In addition, external rendering is based on a strong connection with the background, the mixtures used and the surface cleanliness.
