How to Prevent Kids From Getting Head Lice?

Head lice are usually everywhere. If your kids play around with other kids, there is definitely a risk of getting head lice. Lice have been found in every community from rich to poor.



Although, there are many lice prevention kit online that works absolutely perfect to kill lice, as a parent it is your responsibility to teach your kids about the ways to avoid head lice. Since head lice cannot just jump into your home, preventing them is not as hard as it may sound.

Below are some useful tips you can use to prevent your kids from getting head lice:

  1. Do Not Share Head-Touching Things
    Sharing personal belongings of your kids with someone increases the chance of producing head lice. Avoid sharing head touching things such as combs, hair clips, hair brushes, hats, helmets, coats, scarves, ear buds, headsets, and towels to reduce the chances of head lice.

  2. Reduce Head-to-Head Contact
    While playing, kids usually place their head closer to each other. And if your kid’s friend has lice, be prepared to welcome lice at your home. Tell your child to avoid such activities and games that include head-to-head contact with other kids.

  3. Avoid Sharing Personal Belongings
    Keep your personal belongings separate such as lockers, closets, drawers, clothes and much more that can create breeding grounds for lice. Inform your kid to avoid sharing things like scarves, coats, hats, pillows, sleeping beds, and other clothing items. Adults can also use the similar precautions for safety purpose.

  4. Check Your Child’s Hair
    It is always good to check your kid’s hair once a week. However, you may find lice anywhere; they can be found around the neck, back of the head and behind ears. It is good to wash your child’s hair properly with shampoo and conditioner.

It has been observed that kids most commonly get head lice through direct head-to-head contact. The play time of school-aged kids cannot be avoided. All you can do is concentrate on treating the head lice earlier and encourage your kids to stop sharing their personal belongings with other classmates. Head lice can scare you, but following effective tips and implementing methods can help you to treat them completely.
