HOW TO MINIMIZE CORPORATE WASTAGE WITH FLEET MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

by Elisei Craciun General Manager at IT Green Light
Corporate wastage is as much as an environmental issue as it is a financial one. During the times when the economy is down, companies that put emphasis on resource consumption are more likely to survive the bad times than organizations that are used with overlooking corporate excesses. There is always room for improvement. The key is to identify the areas where money are being wasted, put together an action plan to minimize the wastage, implement it and continue to monitor the indicators so that there will be no more unnecessary expenses.

Companies are different and they can come up with different action plans to cut back on corporate waste, and usually vehicles are an area with a lot of cost-saving actions. Vehicles and other similar equipment are a big investment and they can quickly become a bad investment if companies spend more money on them than they make. With the help of fleet management software, managers will have reports generated that highlight underutilized equipment, point out areas where the equipment would be more productive or identify vehicles that are no longer needed / disposable.

Analyzing different routes, managers can decide on the most efficient one and then with the help of GPS truck tracking they can check whether drivers are following the agreed route. This way companies can save costs on potential extra fuel consumption or unnecessary wear and tear of the vehicles by comparing the optimized route with the actual route taken. Also, having the ability to view which vehicle is closest to a job site, managers can decide which is the most efficient vehicle to send out, while reducing fuel costs.

At the same time there is a great number of companies where vehicles are taken to maintenance at arbitrary times although potentially this is not needed. A fleet management software can solve this issue and minimize costs by avoiding unnecessary maintenance. A good software will offer access to different live/up-to-date reports, so managers can decide whether or not to schedule the vehicles for maintenance based on the actual mileage or engine hours.

Willingly or not fuel slippage costs companies a lot of money annually. A fleet management software can quickly identify a vehicle with a higher fuel consumption rate, alert the manager who can further investigate the reason. They can easily find any fuel wasting practices, or otherwise fuel theft. The goal here is for organizations to spend less on fuel, thus making sure vehicles run efficiently.

What we have to keep in mind is that fleet management system has proved to be a necessity for companies of all sizes. The hardest part for most companies is to take action and start minimizing the corporate wastage.
