How to Make Roses Last Longer?

by Ryan Davis Writer

Everyone wants their roses to perpetually give them their beautiful fragrance. In this blog, we will show some methods that will help you in making your roses last longer.

Cut the stems properly:

This is the most significant step you can take to make your roses last much longer. With roses or for that matter any flowers, most people do not care to consider the importance of stems. Therefore, as soon as you receive your flower delivery, cut the bottom few inches of the step at a slanted angle. The slanted cut is used to make the rose absorb a relatively higher volume of water in the vase. If you keep on repeating this procedure once in every few days, your roses will last significantly longer.

Considering water temperature:

You must give special consideration to the temperature of the water if you want your roses to last longer. It has been fairly established that flowers take up warm water more easily than cold water. Therefore, if you live in a cold region, then you must add some warm water in your vase. On the other hand, if you live in some temperate region then you can simply add room-temperature water.

Supplementing the water:

After receiving your flower delivery, it is hard to keep them for a longer period of time unless you provide your flowers with some nutrition. The best way to do it would be by adding some flower food to your water every two or three days. If you don't want to go through the trouble of getting flower food, then you can add some carbonated drink to the water. This addition will help the flower by maintaining an adequate supply of glucose.

Other than providing nutrition, water also has to be supplemented by other substances to help prevent bacterial growth. A very small amount of bleach might just do the work for you. Of course, with this method, there is a risk of damaging your flowers. So if you're unsure about this, you can go with other substances, such as, aspirin, penny, etc. Without the presence of one of such substances, the bacterial growth might soon reach the flower and start deteriorating it.  You can do a lot of things to hinder the bacterial growth, however, you must select only one or two approaches that best suit your convenience.

Keep the roses away from heat:

You must always keep your roses away from direct sunlight or any other heat generating appliances. In the presence of high temperatures, flowers become quickly dehydrated. Therefore, keeping them in such a condition will lead to their quick demise.
