How To Make Cut Flowers Last Longer?
by Jessica W. WriterWhether you purchase them from a florist or pick them afresh from the flower beds of your garden, cut flowers just do not seem to last more than two or three days and begin to wither eventually. However, there are a few tricks which you can use for extending their life and make them last longer than usual. Try some of the tips given below:
Use A Vase That Is Free of Contaminants :
Clean your flower vase using a mixture of hot water and soap for eliminating fungi and bacteria. Rinse it thoroughly after that and use a piece of cloth for wiping it dry.
Prepare Your Flowers Properly :
If the flowers are to be from your garden, cut them in the morning or after sunset. During the day, plants lose more water via transpiration than their roots can compensate. But this does not happen during early morning or late evening. Or pick only the fresh blooms when buying cut flowers from any florist in Churchill. Place them immediately in water. Remove the lower leaves very carefully from the stem. Before putting the flowers in vase, cut about 1 or inches from their stem at an angle. Hold the stems under running water while doing so.
Provide The Blooms With Food :
In order to make sure that your flowers get the food they require, consider providing them with one of the following preservatives:
- Mix three parts of water with one part of lemon-lime flavoured soda and add ¼ tablespoon of domestic bleach for every litre. Refrain from using diet drinks as they lack in sugar and contain acid in excessive amounts.
- Pour 2 tablespoons of grated lemon, ¼ tablespoon of bleach and 1 tablespoon of sugar in one litre of warm water. Keeping adding ¼ tablespoon of bleach after every four days.
- Buy commercial flower preservatives from any local florist shop or the supermarket. They are usually very cheap and simple to use. Follow the instructions printed on it and use accordingly.
Keep The Flowers Cool :
Recognise the fact that high temperature can make your flowers wilt faster, and take suitable steps for avoiding exposure to heat. Do not place your vase in areas receiving direct sunlight or on top of electric appliances. Keep it instead in a cool place at night. Placing them in a refrigerator, however, would be a very bad idea.
