How To Make A Memory Foam Pillow At Home?

by Caroline Wall Upholstery foams & fabrics supplires in Sydney
Although memory foam pillows can be easily bought from any bedding shop, making one at home can be fun as well as cheap. Besides that, you can create the item according to your own specifications. However, you must have the right tools and material for completing the project flawlessly.

First, make sure you have a sewing machine, a tape measure, a pair of shears and a heavy object ready at hand. Next, you will need to buy some good quality memory foam manufactured by Dunlop. They are usually available in firms that specialise in upholstery in Sydney. But make sure you buy your foam from a reputed firm. Also ask the professionals to cut it properly as per the required measurements. And before making your purchase, determine and pen down the accurate measurements of the pillow that you want.

Once you have the piece of foam, roll it up in the shape of a concertina. If you want the pillow to be more wide than deep, roll it in the form of a Swiss Roll. When you are rolling it off, start with a fold that is about half the desired depth. After the final size has been achieved, place the heavy object on top of it. Now get the accurate dimensions of the roll with the help of the tape measure so that you can use them for preparing the cover. Add an extra 2.5 inches to both the width & depth and 4.5 inches to the depth of the foam. Apply a little pressure when you are taking the measurements.

Now, use the measurements obtained to cut out a suitable piece from the cloth material in order to make the cover. Fold it in half with the unprinted sides facing up & line the edges, and then sew them up together. Make sure that row of stitches are about ⅝ inch inward from the sides. You will get a tube, one side of which you must sew to complete the pillow cover.

Fish your hand into the cover and put out the seamed end. Carefully push the foam inside the cover while holding it together. The foam roll would spring open, so be ready for closing the open end of the cover. Fold the edges by around ½ inch, then pull and sew them together. Your homemade memory foam pillow is now complete.
