How to Maintain Your Air Conditioning System

by Ashley S. Writer For You
You may be surprised at just how much work goes into maintaining an HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) unit. This guide will show you how to keep your unit in good working order.

Check the Filter.
It’s easy to forget to check the filter when you first turn on your air conditioner. However, it’s one of the most important things to do before using your air conditioner. If the filter isn’t clean, it won’t circulate properly.

Replace the Freon.
A dirty filter will also affect the efficiency of your air conditioner. In fact, an improperly maintained air conditioner can cost you more money than necessary. To avoid these issues, make sure to replace the freon every two years.

Check the Refrigerant Level.
If you notice any leaks, check the refrigerant level. This should be done at least once per year. Also, check the drain pan and clean out any debris.

Clean Out the Drain Line.
Check the drain line every month to make sure there aren’t any obstructions. Remove any leaves or other debris that might clog up the drain line.

Inspect the Motor.
If you notice any signs of wear and tear, such as cracks or corrosion, call an HVAC technician to inspect the motor.
