How to Keep a Reader Engaged With Your Content Marketing

by Fusion 360 Studios Digital Marketing Specialists

What makes a good book? The plot? The way it’s written? The characters? All of these things play a role in the making of a good book. Nobody wants to read something that’s written poorly, and that is not limited to just books. For advertisers, content marketing materials need to be just as gripping as a New York Times bestseller. Whether in Utah or the East Coast, creating good content will bring about desirable results.

For anyone wanting to become a good writer, there are various things one can do with their writing that will keep the reader interested. First off, one needs a hook. A hook is the writing in the first paragraph that will draw in the reader. With so much technology and video today, it is harder than ever to keep a reader engaged through the entire piece.

Many times a reader will not read past the first paragraph, so it is important to make the reader want to stick around for the entire piece. One could try using humor or asking an engaging question. Anything that can get the reader to become curious will prove to be a good hook, and will better serve content marketing goals in Utah and elsewhere.

Another way to keep a reader interested in a piece is tone. Tone is, in a sense, the mood and feel of a writing piece. Is the tone joyful? Is it serious or maybe even sad? The tone needs to be consistent throughout the entire piece. It would be rather confusing for a reader to read a piece that starts off as happy and then turns to sadness out of nowhere.

It would also be inappropriate for a serious piece about disease or another serious subject to suddenly introduce humor. Tone is another important factor in content marketing, and whether an advertiser’s target market is a conservative area like Utah or a liberal area like New England, tone can make or break a piece.

Just like public speaking, content marketing needs to keep the audience engaged. In Utah and elsewhere, an audience is looking for something new and exciting. A gripping and well thought out piece will benefit both the writer and reader alike. It is truly a creative gift to be able to keep people engaged, and good marketers can use good techniques to create a world of possibilities when this gift is utilized.
