How to Handle Testing Equipment

by Jaspreet Singh Digital Marketing Expert

It is always better to avoid damages to the digital tools or devices because it is costly to replace them more frequently. If your electrical equipment is provided by the company you are looking for then it is the responsibility of the company to get you new instruments if they are damaged. But the employer is not going to give you new multimeter if you are damaging it frequently. Then he is going to deduct it from your salary if that happens.Nobody wants that. So it is very imperative that you must handle the testing and measuring equipment well. Let's read what are the methods you can adopt to prevent the measuring tools from damage:

• Make sure that the amount of current you are going to measure doesn't exceed from the DMM limit. If you are trying to measure the voltage higher than required value then the fuse is going to blow. Always make sure that you are using the right jacks.

• Always check the settings first before measuring the voltage. For example if you are trying to read Direct Current and you have the settings set at Alternate current then it is going to damage the Digital Multimeter. Try to avoid this mix up of the settings.

• Make sure that the leads are stored in the pouch that comes along with the Digital Multimeter kit. Just wrapping the leads around the meter is going to decrease the integrity of the leads.

• Always use the type of model according to the amount of voltage you are going to use to test or measure the readings. If your is rated CATIII, don’t use it at the service switch gear. If it’s rated up to 1,000V, don’t even get it out around medium-voltage equipment.

So these are the few things that you can manage to avoid as it is all human errors. Electrical measuring instruments are fragile if they don't look after well then they are bound to get damaged. When you visit test equipment depot to buy the electrical instruments always read the instructions mention on the packing cover.
