by Albert Harris Services
If a cigarette or burn a candle on your carpet has to be streamed, here is a solution that will cool you down. While there is no way to make your new carpet look, you can remove and replace charred fibers so you are the only person who will know the marks were there.

  • Follow the Instructions

1. Gently rub the burned area with sandpaper or mild steel wool to remove molten fibers.
2. Brush or vacuum the burned area to remove any charred ash or loose fiber. If the burn marks are gone, you can stop here. If you still can see the burn, you will have to remove and replace that area of carpets (steps 3 to 8).
3. Carefully cut the damaged area with a carpet knife or utility knife (see A), extending your cut at least 2 inches (5 cm) beyond the edges of burns. Make sure you cut only the back of the carpet - not your floor underneath.
4. Place the cutout on a piece of paper. Draw with a pencil and cut out the pattern.
5. Lay the template on a piece of carpet. Or you can use carpet from an area not visible, such as the bottom of a closet. Cut and remove the replacement carpet patch.
6. Using a glue gun, cover the back side of the replacement carpet with rubber mats and fix the piece in place. Rim the edges with glue to prevent the stain from being dislodged during the usual cleaning or use.
7. Blend and seal the seams by renovating the patched area with a carpet tractor (see B).
8. Allow the carpet to dry completely before resuming pedestrian traffic.

  • Tips & Warnings

The most effective measure that you can take to keep your carpet clean and tidy is by installing a tractor mug or rubber mats outside your home. They are easily available at any hardware store. The good thing about the outdoor mats that they are easy to wash with less effort. Therefore your lovely carpet remains clean for longer and you don’t have to spend more frequently on carpet cleaning.
If still the burns do not go all the way to the base of the carpet or you are cautious of cutting and pasting, you can trim the fibers from the hole and burn rubber on the replacement fibers.

Clip new fibers from a new patch of carpet and glue them into place using tweezers. This only works for small areas burned. Hope these tips help you fix burn carpet easily and effectively.
