How to Disable or Enable Closed Captioning in Google Chrome?

Google Chrome is a highly popular browser that comes with a number of features. A number of people use Chrome, especially on Windows devices. But, it does not come with a feature for disabling or enabling captions. In case you are wondering how to do so, then read on.

Toggle Captions on a Video

If you want to toggle captions on a video, then you need to follow the instructions given below.

  • First, you have to open Google Chrome on your device.
  • Then you should play a video on YouTube.
  • When you see the “CC” icon, click on it.
  • Click on the icon again to toggle off.

Toggle Captions on YouTube or Google Account

You need to toggle captions on YouTube or Google account. Follow the instructions given below.

  • First of all, open Google Chrome on your device.
  • Thereafter go to the YouTube Account Settings screen.
  • Navigate to the left menu & choose the “Playback” option.
  • You should tick the box of “Always show captions” if you would like to toggle on for each video. But if you want to turn it on, you can untick.
  • If you would like to view automatic captions on videos that don’t give them, you can tick the box of “Show automatic by speech recognition” option.
  • When you are satisfied with the changes, click on the “Save” option.

Toggle Captions on iOS Device

If you want to toggle captions on the iOS device, then you need to follow the instructions given below.

  • Get started by launching YouTube & play the video you want on your iOS device.
  • Then you have to tap on the vertical ellipsis menu icon.
  • Now, go to the “CC” icon tap the caption on & tap it once more to turn it off.

Toggle the Captions on Android Device

You need to toggle captions on Android device. Follow the instructions given below.

  • To get started, navigate to YouTube.
  • Then you should play the video you want.
  • You should tap on the “Menu” icon to enable the caption on.
  • Tap on once more to turn it off.

Alternate Options

  • To begin with, open YouTube on your device.
  • Go to the account icon.
  • Select the “Your channel” option.
  • Then tap on the vertical ellipsis menu icon.
  • Thereafter navigate to the menu & choose the Settings option.
  • Select the “Captions” button next to the lower part of the list.
  • You have to switch the toggle of “Captions” to the “On” position.
  • Now, tap on it again to captions turn off.

Manage Captions on TV & Game Consoles

If you want to manage captions on TV & game consoles, then you need to follow the instructions given below.

  • First & foremost, navigate to YouTube on your device.
  • Then you should go to the watch screen, toggle the player controls.
  • Select “More Options.”
  • Thereafter, you should click on the “CC” option.
  • Tap on “Captions” to turn it on & tap once again to turn it off.

Disable Captioning Size & Style on Computer

You need to disable captioning size & style on a computer. Follow the instructions given below.

  • Navigate to Google Chrome on your device.
  • You should play the video.
  • Then click on the Settings option.
  • Select the “CC” icon.
  • Click on the “Options” tab.
  • Make the changes as per your wish.

Personalize Captions on iOS device

If you want to personalize captions on the iOS device, then you need to follow the instructions given below.

  • First, you have to navigate to YouTube on your iOS device.
  • You have to select the Settings.
  • Tap on General.
  • Choose Accessibility.
  • Select Media.
  • You should select Subtitles and Captioning.
  • Tap on Style & Modify the font style & size.
  • Now, choose “Create New Style” if you would like to change sizes, fonts & colors.
